Only a wooden wedge is included in the axe I received. The head hasn't loosened after several uses of chopping and splitting. This axe has only been in my possession for a little over a year. As a result, I'm not sure if the head will loosen as the handle shrinks. If that happens, I'm going to add a cylindrical metal wedge to the mix. That's what I did with a 50-year-old axe recently, and it worked out well. In addition, despite its light head, the GB American Felling Axe performs admirably as a splitting axe. It splits just like the 6 pounder. I usually split wood with a fireman's axe.
The head is about three pounds. 1 pound 3 pound 5 kilos). br>The total weight of the axe is 5. 5 pounds.
In 1998, Geoffrey Burke, a canoe builder and woodsman from the United States, collaborated on the American Felling Axe. The axe was crafted in Sweden.

Because of the handle length, I purchased this model of GB axe. All of the others are dangerously short; anything less than 35 inches (90 cm) will most likely end up in your foot or shin. My height is only 5'6" (1. I've been swinging axes with 36-inch handles for more than 50 years, and I'm 65 meters tall. I cringe when I see videos of men over six feet tall wielding short-handled axes. The wood-to-metal fit on this axe is particularly impressive. The edge is razor-sharp, but not so much that it can be used to shave. The grain orientation of the handle isn't ideal, but it's satisfactory. I put it to the test by felling, limbing, and bucking some trees. The edge didn't chip or bend, and it was just as sharp as it was when I started. The head did not detach from the body, nor did it become loose. There was no damage to the handle. It cut well enough, but not quite as well as my 5 pound. Jersey. The head appears to be light, but the handle appears to be heavy. A 100-square-foot addition to the design could make it better. 200 grams of steel in the head, with a similar amount shaved off the handle to make it a little more "whippy. " Overall, this is an excellent axe. I'm glad I purchased it, and I would recommend it to others.
This axe is incredible. The smith initials each axe, and the book has a name that matches the initials. My code was EE, which isn't listed in the book. The most recent list of smiths can be found on their website. The handle is splintery, which is my only minor complaint. I'm going to get a splinter if I rub against the grain. br>br>Oiling and light sanding are required for the handle.
br>br>Handle is a little slick until you apply some oil to it.
I adore this axe.
Trees are sliced through like butter, and the diameter is even larger( 1ft) trees aren't too difficult to fell if you swing the axe at an angle rather than straight down. When making the notches for the face and back cuts, swing straight into the tree; if you swing at an angle, you can easily sink the axe deep and remove large chunks at a time.
I believe it requires a steel wedge.
A lovely, well-crafted axe. It was well worth the money.
This is the axe for you if you enjoy manual woodworking or simply appreciate fine tools. The only criticism I have is that the hardwood handle is a little rough, which is almost unimportant to mention. The first time I use it, I'll put on gloves to reduce the roughness. The axe arrived sharp enough to shave with while still having a good working edge. The leather sheath that protects the knife's edge is also well constructed. This is something I would buy again in a heartbeat. And as a seller, I strongly suggest Duluth Pack. I placed my order late on a Sunday night, and it arrived early the next morning on Tuesday.
