The blade is protected by a cover. I wouldn't call it a "sheath," but if that's your goal, it will allow you to pack the hatchet away without fear of an exposed blade.
It is hollow, but it is not flimsy. Be sure to get a sharpening puck to sharpen and maintain the edge, as it is not very sharp out of the box.
All black
Yes. The back of the ax head (butt/poll) is made of the same metal material as the butt/poll and can be used to drive stakes into the ground. It's a little narrow, but if you can't hammer it, a broad rock will suffice.

Great hatchet that replaces the one my neighbor stole and tried to use as a splitting wedge. He had every right to commit suicide.
This hatchet is one of my favorites. This little baby is razor-sharp and appears to have a long life ahead of it. The fact that it was this sharp straight from the manufacturer was a huge surprise. When a chainsaw is too much, I mount this on my four-wheeler and use it to cut limbs and other debris from the trail. Cutting kindling is a breeze with this tool. It is only for cutting and not for hammering. Because the handle is made of heavy duty plastic, I used a very thin piece of rope to add gripping power. The carrying case is something I really like.
I broke my wrist using it, but it's a great axe. Yes, it's for me, so maybe it's not for everyone, it's very good, it needs honed, it needs strops, it needs a better sheesh, it's best to use Swiss actions, but it worked, it isn't for cutting metals, it's not for wire, it won't chop a padlock, as my neighbors wanted to do, but I recommend wearing a thick glove, one that supports the outer and inner bones of the.
Because of the head's and blade's weight and shape- It gets the job done quickly. This essential tool is ideal for small campfires and fire pits. However, be cautious- If you strike the blade against something hard, such as a rock, it will break. The metal will be harmed as a result of your actions. Because the steel used in this hatchet is of a lower grade, With hard impacts (full swings) to those harder surfaces, the edge will not hold for long, and it will easily dinge and dent. I also purchased a Fiskars knife/axe sharpener, which performed exceedingly well! It took care of the parts of the blade that weren't too badly damaged Razor Sharp- and spruced up the areas that were more severely damaged! This Fiskars hatchet, as well as the sharpener, comes highly recommended. The quality is unbeatable for the price!.
This is primarily used as a camp axe. It's a hatchet with a great design. Despite the fact that the butt end wasn't designed for hammering tent pegs, it does a good job - Despite the fact that hammering them scuffs up the end a little. I had to sharpen it before using it, but it wasn't completely dull when I got it. It was just not as sharp as it could have been. I like the hole in the handle so much that I wrapped some paracord around it and pushed it through the loop to give it some grip and a loop to hang it with. Otherwise, it's a little slick; finally, if it matters, the stickers came off easily and cleanly.
One of the older hatchets is shown here. The head of the one shown differs by about 10 degrees from the one actually sent. It cuts differently as a result of this. I'd have to take a non-traditional approach to make this hatchet work. I'm returning this one because of the ergonomic posture, which is likely to cause muscle strain if used for an extended period of time. I'm going to get one that helps me rather than hinders me.
I have the larger brother (27") and am very happy with it. This appears to be ideal for light duty limb removal and trimming, as well as short excursions and day hikes. I only gave it four stars for value for money and giftability because I'm sure there are better hatchets for a dollar or two less, and not everyone would appreciate it if it were given as a gift. Having said that, I'm happy with the purchase. The stickers are easy to remove and leave no residue, and the sheath is in good condition. For the money, I give the hatchet and sheath 5 stars because they appear to be of decent quality.
I used it last weekend to cut up small logs - it's a great little axe for camping and outdoor adventures. It worked perfectly, and I'll be taking it on my camping trip in October. I like the edge guard and the handles, and I'm going to add a piece of leather to the handle to make it hangable.
