Questions & Answers

Is 2. 9 lb (46 kg) Is it true that 4 ounces) is the actual weight? Weight is not mentioned on Estwing's site. I'll be backpacking, so I'll need to know how much weight I'll be carrying. ?

The starting weight for felling is 3s, 3 1/2 ect., and 5 ect. The number seven is a feller's axe, but it's difficult to come by. As a result, 3 is regarded as a "camp axe," with little ability to split wood and little ability to fell trees. If you keep it "crazy sharp," you'll have a good weekend campers' axe. It's the handle that's top of the line. In addition, the metal holds a working edge better than average. Simply put, don't try to make a living off of it. I have two easting axes, a four-short-handled kindling maker that I keep locked up when the neighbors come out tool hunting, and an east wing miners rock pick that I used to kill a marauding wolverine. Yes, I am a fan of East Wing.

The hatchet of a sportsman or the axe of a camper? I'd use it primarily to cut kindling and wood for a campfire. ?

A groove has been cut out above the blade of the Campers Axe to pull tent stakes out of the ground. The groove is missing on the sportsman hatchet. br>Estwing Axes is another option. Leather grips can be found on hammers with red multicolored handles. Nylon is used to make the blue and black grips.

Is this a solid piece of stainless steel?

Yes, it's made of a single piece of steel.

Is the handle solid or hollow, as on many metal hatchets and small axes?

The entire length of the handle is made of solid metal and forged tool steel. It's also not a small space. It's 18 inches long, weighs 3 pounds, and splits wood very well when measured with a measuring tape.

Selected User Reviews For Estwing 84-984 ES44A Campers Axe-16 Molded Handle, 16" (Inches), Blue

The attached image shows the Estwing E44A that I purchased over 8 years ago, as well as the one that I recently purchased
5/5

These axes, as you can see, withstand a lot of abuse. All I wanted was another one. You can see that the sheaths have been changed from leather to nylon since I bought the original. I'm guessing it's a cost-cutting measure, but the nylon appears to be sturdy and well-made, so I'm not too concerned.

This is a fantastic hand axe
5/5

This is the third axe I've purchased from Estwing. Advantages: br>br> The one-piece construction is virtually indestructible, and the blue cushioned grips absorb a significant amount of the shock from my swings and hits. The steel is a heat-treated medium carbon metal that is extremely durable. My Estwings have stood up to a lot of abuse over the years; There isn't any chipping or rolling of the edges. In addition, the hammer section can be used to drive nails or pound the crap out of things. Because hammering deforms the axe heads, you shouldn't do this with expensive traditional axes. The non-verbal communication is appealing to me. In humid climates, a leather head cover or sheath that does not retain moisture or rot. For a utility axe, this axe head configuration is an excellent compromise. It is, however, more effective at chopping than splitting wood. It's a good all-around tool (rather than a specialty axe) that can be used for a variety of camp chores and bushcraft adventures (car-borne). br>br>Contrary to popular belief, there are a number of disadvantages to using this product. It's not light, weighing in at just over 3 pounds. The weight of this axe will make all of the wilderness weight weenies cry and moan. Recommendations: br>br> The Estwings with the blue vinyl handles are the ones to get. The blue vinyl absorbs shock and is, in my opinion, more comfortable and long-lasting than the leather stacked axe handles. My father's old Estwing axe with leather stacked handles was a great tool, but it came apart section by section when hit by knives or other axes (we used to throw knives and axes a lot back in our "Doktari" days). Although this was obviously product abuse, I believe the blue vinyl handles are a little more durable. Also, I would suggest purchasing the non-alcoholic version. Save a few bucks by going with the coated version. It's simple enough to apply your own finish to this axe using whatever spray paint or enamel you have on hand. To contrast against the surrounding jungle and deter theft, I use ugly fluorescent (green, orange, red, etc. ) 80's looking paint on my blades (axes, shovels, latin machetes, parangs, barongs, kukris, bush knives, etc. ).

dependable 10/14/17br>This fall, I've had a lot more opportunities to put it to use
4/5

Because of the quality control issues I mentioned in my previous review, I continue to give it a four-star rating. However, it splits wood more effectively than I had anticipated. If your wood is dry, you can use it as a fire starter. This is good for splitting logs up to 14" in diameter that are relatively free of knots. Height is 18". That was my experience, at the very least. The long, thin blade slashes through the wood with great force. When it becomes stuck, it can be difficult to remove. If the head was a little shorter, it would be a lot better at splitting wood. the cheeks have grown in size The one-piece steel structure appears to be indestructible. original review: br>br> br>Out of four stars, estwing is docked one for lack of quality control. thin cheeks, but 4 stars because they give us an extra two inches of length on the 16" campers axe, it's American made solid steel construction for a reasonable price, and it's American made solid steel construction for a reasonable price. It will most likely withstand the abuse that I will dish out to it. br>I'd had my eye on these for a while, and when they went on sale for $10, I snatched them up. br>For two reasons, I had to return the first one that was sent to me. The first reason was cosmetic: there were two large deep scratches near the poll. The second reason was due to a manufacturing flaw: the cutting edge had an extremely uneven bevel. On one side, it's quite large, and on the other, it's quite On the other hand, it should not have made it past quality control, and at best, it could have been sold as a second. br>Amazon immediately sent a replacement that was far superior. br>I just got that one out. Overall, I believe it was a success. It has a long blade. It bites well because its cheeks are narrow. With a factory edge, it cuts easily. Despite the additional length, the narrow cheeks aren't as good for splitting. 2. poundage 9lb. ) over the axe of a sportsman (1. 66lb. I wouldn't use it for anything more than 5-pounds of meat to chop or split. If I can find it, I prefer to work with firewood that is 6 inches in diameter. the 16- The inch camper's axe is just long enough to be used with two hands and is well balanced. It's not too heavy that you can't get a little choked up. One-handed work is possible with it. br>The hudson bay type head shape provides a good grip for close work, but it would benefit from a little more sharpening to be truly effective. br>The nylon sheath is light, durable, and comfortable to wear. When not in use, it's best to wear the sheath. Because he didn't sheathe his axe while carrying it, one of the contestants on his own had to tap out. He collapsed as a result of exhaustion. A nasty cut was caused by uneven ground. He even mentioned the terrain's dangers just before the accident. br>The images depict a 16-year-old girl. a vintage estwing sportsman's axe (13. inch camper's axe (actually 18" long) vs. a vintage estwing camper's axe (13. 5" long (the same size as one with a leather stacked handle, but with a blue shock-absorbent grip). br>I will be in charge of the 16-person team. In the truck, keep a 12-inch camper's axe for general use. the forged steel head, which is made entirely of one piece A good axe head mounted on a wooden handle will take a lot more abuse. This is useful because I frequently remove fatwood from old stumps with an axe or hatchet. with a strong head It's also simple to baton a head mounted on a wooden handle, which is another activity that can loosen it. Batoning is useful because it isn't the best splitter and gets stuck in the wood due to the thinner cheeks. br>If those cheeks were fatter, I'd give it 5 stars without a doubt. Because I don't chop a lot of trees/logs and prefer to save energy, it had a little extra weight, making it a splitting monster, which is how I'd get the most use out of it at camp. I did my best to find firewood. br>However, I strongly suggest it for what it is.

Excellent, well-done constructed an axe This is a solid piece of equipment
5/5

I've used other Estwing products in the past and have never been disappointed. The all- The biggest selling point for me is the metal/seamless head for construction. It will not let you down no matter how hard you beat it. Chopping, hammering, and tossing are all things that can be done with a knife. It handles everything with ease. The blade shape is also superior to that of other axes of similar design. This axe is about the size of a medium. It's great for around the house or camping, but it's not something you'd want to bring on a long backpacking trip. For that, go with a lighter option.

A top-tier tool for your woodpile at home, as well as competition throwing
5/5

I've been using it for a while now. I'd been looking for a shorter-handled version of this axe for decades and was delighted to find it. The axe's hefty head and two-handed grip make it a formidable weapon. This is a very powerful tool with a short handle that makes it easier to control than even a boy's axe. However, when compared to simple hatchets, this is a far superior tool in every way. If my memory serves me correctly, it also falls under the rules for competitive axe-throwing. As seen on TV, throwing. It could use some fine tuning with a file and diamond stones, but that's something we should all expect with new axes that will be used on a regular basis. After all, you're going to have to sharpen it at some point.
