Questions & Answers

If I want to make this file indetectable, what kind of cake would I need?

If you would like a pound cake, I suggest it. This way, I would be able to fit it nicely and no one would suspect something is amiss. A birthday cake would be the first thing that comes to everyone's mind.

How hard is this case and does it have carbon steel through and ?

One of these files was broken in a straight line, and I did not bend it. This means that it has not been case hardened, but has been tempered all the way

Can you tell me how the woodworking goes? Do you make bows specifically?

Those are not the purposes for which I would use it. An axe that has been used for a long time will benefit from this. Making bows is also a hobby of mine, so I am curious to know what you want to achieve with this file. I use draw knives, small planers, and wood rasps often.

Who makes it? Where is it produced?

There is a Chinese component to this product. This is a good product with decent quality and it does work quite

There was a broken tooth
3/5

an aluminum file broke off in six spots midway along the belly of the double cut side. A gentle pressure was applied on mild steel during about I had to use an older file with a single cut side. I had no problems. A Nicholson file guide states this occurs often after excessive pressure is placed on the file. That does not appear to be the case in this case. Since I began filing more than fifty years ago, I have never experienced this with a file. Despite Amazon's prompt replacement of this file, the original was not returned. Firstly, I would like to thank Amazon and Mr. Bezos for their support. I was able to complete the original task using the new file without any issues. My rating will be upgraded to three stars because there is a great deal of wood cutting to be done. It is possible for an item to slip past quality control.

That was not how it was There is no doubt that "Double-sided" is the description Single-sided cut with a single edge Make sure you cut the opposite way
3/5

Only the single-sided photo of the file can be seen on the photo It would be nice to see a picture of the other side of the cut. The song is actually a single Both sides of the cut are cut. I will not return it, but I will buy its replacement locally so I can go over it before I buy it. A sticker on the package with the part number and Nicholson's name is the only instance of Nicholson appearing on either the file or the plastic package. I am inclined to believe it is not the true brand, but a cheap imitation A knockoff has been made. This is to be repeated In other words, you are not buying what is described. Consider going somewhere else.

Axes that are hardened cannot work with these materials
3/5

My lawn mower blades and tools needed to be sharpened, so I bought these two files. One I used this summer was to sharpen lawn mower blades, and it did the job well. There are a couple Forest Service issue Pulaski pistols with FSS Flint Edge printed on the grips. As I recall, the USFS specs for their Pulaski require that the bits have a tempered hardness of Rc53-54 Trying to file these older axes I ruined both of these files in just a few minutes. There is a difference between the steel of the files and the steel used in axes. Steel that is softer, like mower blades, is OK. If used on hardened tools, either of these files would be a waste of money, or they would be very useful. If you are going to buy a file, make sure it is of good quality.

Probably could be better, but a decent file nonetheless

Do you have a similar one? Files from Nicholson are known to last for 10x or more longer than those from no-name Chinese companies. There are lots of things to like about this product, but compared to others from Nicholson it isn't up to par. There is one main problem the double-blind, which led to a staggering number of victims A true double-sided file doesn't really have a cut side The cut has been made. It is barely visible in the metal that one of the cuts have been made. By doing this, the file is effectively a single-file Both sides of the file should be cut, and the double-sided file should be opened Material doesn't clear away as quickly as it should on the cut side. Other than this, the file is capable of running It's great that it has an integrated handle, which makes it much easier to pack and I don't have to buy any doubtful hardware As a result, I gouge my fingers repeatedly on the tang of these handles, which are an unnecessary expense and slip off easily. of the handle are a bit sharp, but not sharp enough to pose any real danger to the user. I will round them off when I get the chance. The "safety sides" refer to the fact that the edges have no teeth, and are In spite of the lack of teeth on the edges, the way the teeth on the flats of the file have been cut means there's a bit of a ragged edge that can scratch a project or nick your This file will be used ideally with gloves on. However, even without gloves, the edge is unlike a toothed edge that can irritate hands or cause discomfort. Can you tell me if this is a defect in any of your files? I'm wondering if I got a defective one, or if they're all cut in Let me know what you think by leaving a comment.

We did not receive a Nicholson file
3/5

The file was not embossed with the Nicholson brand, as all genuine Nicholson files are. In other words, the file is counterfeit.

As a file, it's good for a knife blank but not too good for a knife blank
3/5

However, it worked quite well for a brief period of time. A short while after that, it didn't work. The rusty file I used to sharpen my axe ended up being the best option. My guess is that I just got a bad file, since this company used to produce My problem with giving negative feedback is that there is no excuse for tools that won't cut metal if they've only been used for a few minutes. Files with no name that I buy cheaply are much better than those with names. Maybe the one I got was just bad, like I said above. Maybe it is worth taking a chance on, if you are a person who works with old files to make blades. Unlike the files with rat tails, even if it doesn't work as a file, you'll have something to work with, a cheap knife blank with the metal to make a handle.

Tool that is good for the basics
4/5

I like how it works. A good edge can be obtained even on steel axes that have been hardened. With two sides in one tool, it is beneficial to have a coarse and fine side. In the handle and near the edges, I have deducted a star since there appear to be unnecessary burrs and rough Eventually, I wrapped the handle with some electrical tape to solve the problem, but when I opened the box, I noticed that there was a problem with the file that I needed to attend to unless I would wear gloves every time I used The functionality of this product is five-star. The quality of the fit and finish and attention to detail is three plus stars.

I liked that it came opened and worked well with my axe
3/5

My pictures show that it was already open when I received it, and that it works great. While the file was brand new, if it was open or returned, I definitely want to receive a 10% discount, but that's just my preference.
