Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use these to slaughter chickens and turkeys? more specifically, to begin the process by chopping off the heads?

They can barely cut through a processed chicken neck bone, thank you very much. I've never been able to cut a turkey bone with them, either. However, it's possible that I'm a stumbling block. br>These used to be fantastic shears, but not so much since they switched to the orange handle design. But I haven't come across anything better.

Is it safe to put in the dishwasher?

I haven't put mine in the dishwasher yet, but I wouldn't mind doing so in the top rack or even the silverware rack (though mine is in the door, not the bottom rack). They should be fine in the top shelf, in my opinion.

These are supposed to be 13" long, according to the description. That can't be right, can it?

I gave these as gifts, but I don't think they were 13" shears. Isn't the holder included in this?

Is the wave at the joint acting as a notch in the bone?

Yes, and it appears to work well with hollow bird bones that aren't too large.

It looks like something you'd find at Harbor Freight
3/5

It's clear that she's only a Gerber by name. br>I can completely understand why people are upset. Zinc-plated steel is used for the pivot screw. It'll corrode. Quickly staining The general fit of the garment The quality of the finish is typical of a low-cost Chinese tool. br>This is straight from the tool store Harbor Freight. br>I've learned a valuable lesson.

Shears are great, but screws will rust in no time
3/5

I really want to like these because they cut quail wings well and make field dressing simple, but the damn screw isn't stainless steel. The shears cannot be washed without rust runoff from the screw, even if the product says they can be put in the dishwasher. They got everything right except for one damn screw, which was a bummer.

I adore Gerber products, but the connection screw rusts quickly
4/5

In my lifetime, I've owned a lot of them, including a Gerber multi-tool. This is an incredible and rock-solid tool from the 1990s. However, these sheers appear to be made in China and are not of the same high quality as Gerber's other products. It has an excellent handle. The cutting blades are excellent, and they stay sharp (and do not rust) for a long time. However, the middle SCREW that secures the locking bar that connects the two sides is made of flimsy metal. After one wash (hand wash), it literally began to rust. I've oiled it, sanded off the rust, and oiled it once more. On that one screw, it just keeps rusting badly. It will take time to see if it holds together, but with so much rust eating away at the screw, I doubt it will last years.

Within the First Week, a Rusty Screw arose
3/5

These shears are ideal for use on wild game and in the kitchen. The screw corroded and rusted almost immediately, so I gave them three stars. Is this for real? Couldn't they have used a stainless screw instead?.

Cleaning up is a breeze
5/5

I'm going to need a few more pairs of these. I used to clean small game with an old style that I used for bird and duck hunting. They stayed in the kitchen for another week after my wife used them to open the remaining Amazon packages that day. We kept them in my chuck box on an elk hunt and used them every day to cut open dehydrated meals, cut rope for a clothes line, tape, packages, and trim ratchet straps, among other things. They were easy to clean and well machined. We used them on a daily basis for a variety of tasks that most people would overlook. This is an extremely useful tool to have around the house, while camping, in the shop, or while hunting.

I've tried a lot of different game shears, and these are by far the best
5/5

While out hunting with my hawk, I experimented with a variety of scissors. I need to cut up rabbits as quickly as possible. These are excellent, and the color keeps them from being misplaced. I've had to say goodbye to a lot of people! The case is also easy to carry on my belt and is extremely useful when I need to get to them quickly. I'm not going to have to rummage through my game bag any longer.

I used it on squirrels to quarter them out and it worked great
5/5

I used it on squirrels to quarter them out and it worked great. Also useful for cutting other things without ruining your hunting blade's edge.

The sheers are fantastic
5/5

Gerber's products can be hit or miss, but this one is a definite winner. Right out of the box, it's razor sharp. The handles are well-made and easy to grasp. It's a plus that they can be disassembled. I haven't had them long, so I'm not sure how they'll hold up to rust, but I'll report back once I've had them for a while.
