When you use them, they automatically close. The blades close as the shock absorbers compress. I've had a pair of these for over two decades and have yet to find anything comparable.
On the P51's (Orange) we have, the distance between the center of the bolt and the tip is slightly less than 10 1/4".
According to the item description, these shears have aluminum handles. The handles on the shears I received were not painted like the ones shown here; instead, they were made of natural aluminum. Unless the manufacturer is painting them now, I'm not sure why Amazon changed the picture. By the way, these are the best shears I've ever owned, and they're well worth every penny!

These were purchased for my wife to use because she is short in stature and my other pair is too heavy and large for her. I really like them; they're very sharp, and my wife thinks they're fantastic as well. I keep them oiled, and they've stayed razor-sharp for years. You will not be disappointed with these shears.
The blades are simple to sharpen. I was initially perplexed by the orange bulbs and the scissors that did not fully close. The orange balls, I discovered, prevent the blades from sticking and allow them to close completely when in use. The design is extremely clever.
It's well-made, well-balanced, and light. Blades made of high-quality steel should maintain their sharpness for a long time. The shears are not the cheapest, but the fine materials make them worthwhile. artisanship.
I'd never tried the light ones with the short handle before, but they're fantastic. They're just like the old orange-handled versions.
