Unfortunately, I do not own a hatchet so I cannot answer the question. There is a hold on the handle of the hatchet, right? Even though it does compact down, it is still longer and wider than my grip and the circumference of a small saw for ease of handling. I think it's worth the trouble to have it either way. This type of holster will easily fit in the pocket of the gun and even come with one. Using their hatchet will make this happen for you. Thank you so much for giving it to me. In a short amount of time, I chopped down a tree branch with at least a 9" circumference. Much easier than getting out the chain saw, which took much longer.

A similar Fiskars saw which I had bought earlier performed well before I purchased this one. There is nothing particularly wrong with the thumb screw or handle of the saw, but the blade, for regular use, is less than stellar. I lost several teeth in a matter of months when the tip of the blade snapped cleanly. As long as there was enough blade left to be useful, it wasn't a big deal. Upon continuing to use the tool for a longer period of time, however, the base of the blade gave way from flexing, and eventually it broke free of I found the saw about 30 months after I bought it in my garbagecan. My opinion is that such a short lifespan is not appropriate for a tool of this price.
I had the larger model and liked how quickly it cut through branches. On the other hand, while riding to clear trails, I almost lost my way. I also ordered this model in the meantime. I can fit it into my trail bag because it's a bit smaller.
The weight of the package is light ounce) for backpacking, but there are better saws available for that price.
When this happened a couple of times, I almost cut myself badly, so I decided to just toss the saw in the trash instead.
A version of this goes back a few years. I use it to get in between little branches without damaging nearby ones because it works much better than expected. It has a carabiner clip, so I'm tempted to buy it now.
