Questions & Answers

The Bigboy 2000 is a better version of Bigboy. How is it different? In my mind, the blade of the 200 has a curved edge, while the blade of the regular bigly is straight? Do you know of any other differences?

The teeth on the 2000 remind me of my uncle Ernest, who has extra big teeth

In comparison with the 360 (straight blade), what are the advantages of the Bigboy 2000 (curved blade)?

When a pulley is bent, the curve becomes sharper As the teeth bite and hold the saw down on the wood, pressure is relieved from the wrist as tension is no longer in the fingers thus, a sore wrist is avoided as the teeth bite and hold the saw It is easier to pull out the arm muscles with a pull cut than with a push cut.

What's the difference between this and say, a 21"- Can you tell me how big the 24" bow saw is?

Folding saws can be used in tight places where a swede or bow saw will not fit (pruning branches on a fruit tree, for example). Does it have a faster speed? The 21" does not surpass the speed of a 20". A 24" may be as fast as that. In a 30-degree climate, bow saws are a must It can remove a lot of wood on each stroke when the blade is 36" long. This is a bit of an apples to oranges situation.

What is the possibility of sharpening the blade?

I don't know. It is especially hard to clean the blade teeth using a regular file because they are impulse hardened and very hard. Use a diamond feather file or maybe a dremel with a shaped stone and a steady hand. A regular file will just slide During my hike on the Pacific Crest Trail, I used the same new blade for five days in a row. 30 minutes probably needs to be cut Branches and trees amount to 50 trees and 50 twigs. The focus is still there. Each year, I plan to just purchase a new blade.

The first time I heard statements like "it can replace a chainsaw," I just assumed they were just making a joke
5/5

It just seemed like a bunch of hype and hyperbole when I heard statements like "it can replace a chainsaw". In other words, they are. . . It's sort of true. has got to be the best thing ever! This saw is not as fast as a chainsaw, but it is faster than any saw I have ever Commentaries on the bending of blades generally tend to come from one of two sources In order to understand a Japanese saw, or any Japanese saw for that matter, you have to know how it For all practical purposes, they all cut on the pull stroke, and they don't cut on either the push or the pull stroke. There should not be any downward pressure applied when applying forward pressure to the saw. In fact, I use some lifting pressure when pushing the saw forward. Down pressure, and not a whole lot of it, should be used only It will cut very easily if you do it this way, and it will eat away at your wood. A second problem is that the blade can become trapped as a result of pressure on the limb. Two methods can be used to stop this. MAKE AN UNDERCUT FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING! The undercut should ALWAYS be done first, even if the branch or log (yes, it can cut *logs*) are an inch or so around. With this saw, it is extremely easy. The brittleness of the material makes it just as easy to cut up as it is to cut down. It's not uncommon for me to make undercuts that reach halfway through the limb, then make the down-cut to finish the job. To ensure that the top and bottom of the cut are aligned, mark them. As a result, the cut will go faster, and the blade won't bind unless the limb is rotated. It is also helpful to use a cutting wedge. The saw is easy to use and has cut 6" limbs with ease while I volunteer in trail maintenance for the Park Service. It is amazing. I cannot describe it in enough positive terms. It was so good that I ordered a Katana Boy, and I can't wait to play with.

A good folding saw is IMO the best available on the market
5/5

It is both incredibly sharp and light in weight. Despite the thin blade (something that others have an issue with), if you follow the instructions and keep in mind that the saw is designed to cut on the pull, you shouldn't get any problems with it. As someone else has stated, I do not see how it can break as someone else has complained about in their review, as long as you tweak it by bending it or twisting it roughly. Anyone who has ever worked with wood knows that a saw must be maintained properly if it is not to bind. Silky is one of my favorite backpacks for backpacking and camping. I purchased this particular size and have thoroughly enjoyed it. My choice was this over the Bacho Laplander (which is also a very good saw) because it would enable me to cut larger limbs and trees with trunks that were 12" in diameter. My experience with using this saw was that it achieves its goals quickly and effortlessly. It will free up your hands when you're carrying your wood when you use the Silky sheath. If you're a backpacker, purchase it because it's the best choice. If you plan to strap it to the outside of your pack, you'll need to modify it in some way so that it will stay in place.

I've been using this silky for a year and a half now, and was inclined to write this review after using it for so long
5/5

The Silky model I bought ended up being the one I bought after spending way too much time researching the differences between them. When I was backpacking, I was most interested in carrying wood to cut for firewood during campouts. The weight to utility ratio of everything I carry is one of my keys to packing light, even if I am not an ultralight packer. With a one pound saw, I concluded that I would be able to process wood faster and with a lot less effort than I would with a very heavy The blade of a larger knife can be batoned if needed to split wood. As others have said, the device's cutting speed and precision are astounding for something that weighs so little and is powered manually. The same Gomboy 240 with medium teeth also has the advantage of a faster cutting speed, as shown by the sections of 8" dia) that I cut with minimal effort in my yard. My next goal was to measure how tooth size and model affect cutting speeds. As a comparison, this model (Bigboy 2000 with XL teeth) seems to cut half the speed of this one. When choosing the teeth size for your model - unless you have a specific task that would require a smoother finish - go with the largest size.

For serious work, this folding saw is the best
5/5

The type of guy I am uses four tools. If I am going to spend an extended period in the woods, I like to have my axe, saw, knife, and utility blade with me. Each of these will be of varying sizes depending on the situation. (For now) I've decided to stop spending so much money on tools after a few years and far too many purchases. Silky Saws are the right choice for my saw needs when I am traveling ultralight, staying short and going on extended trips. Whenever I need my Pocketboy 170, I use it with medium teeth A folding saw that's ultralight and can be tossed into a bag. I do not think there is a better bushcraft saw than my Gomboy 240 with large teeth. Besides being lightning fast, durable, and easy to replace, it also simply does what it's supposed to do. own both the Corona and Bahco laplander, and the Gomboy beats them both by a mile. (The Corona is just slightly faster than the Bahco. ) I was curious, so I had to give the BigBoy 2000 a shot. Could you please tell me what you think? As if you had a chainsaw on hand, it cuts through logs up to 4 inches in diameter like butter, and can handle even very large ones you wouldn't even be able to handle There is a lot of it. The size of the world. The height of 14 inches may not seem as impressive as the others, but when compared with the others, it's astonishing. The only way it wouldn't be so bad is if you carried a Small Forest Axe into the woods. My bags have almost all been able to fit inside. There isn't a sheath included with this one, and it doesn't come with one, but so far it hasn't been a major issue. The guy won't even feel the difference if you set it down with the rest of the stuff. The yellow and more than two feet long open flowers are easily visible. There is only one thing that bothers me, and that is the blade, which is sometimes a little loose, and bends too easily if I hit a knot or am not The user is mostly to blame for that. Despite its age, the GomBoy 240 is still my most used guitar For short outings, you can use a bushcraft saw. It is, however, the best option for me if I will be spending several days in the woods, or plan on doing some serious woodcraft.
