You don't need batteries for it.

According to it, there are five. It is 5" wide, which I assume is the blade, but what is the folded and extended length?

The folded length is 8" and the extended length is 14". A blade is 5 inches long and can cut medium to long materials. The length of this item is 5".

The proper way to put the blade back in its sleeve after opening it

Despite not having used it yet, I can't comment. After the blade has been fully opened, it is unclear if the sleeve can be closed again once it has been fully opened. As much as I would like to maneuver it, I don't want to. The instructions regarding this are not written down.

The machine cuts anything beautifully, even branches up to 3 to 4 inches in diameter. The design is ergonomic and compact as well as lightweight. Despite its simplicity, this pruning saw can be used by even an amateur.
