Questions & Answers

Is it possible to apply the water-based Polycrylic protective finish to a flat latex-painted wooden surface?

"Fast-drying protective top coat for use on interior wood surfaces such as furniture, trim, doors, and cabinets," according to the label. It can be applied to both bare wood and oil-based surfaces. water-based and based on I've used it on latex painted wood surfaces and it's fine; additionally, because it's water-based, it's great for outdoor use. It doesn't get that yellow-colored based. Over time, it will take on an oily appearance. version that is based I hope this information is useful.

I recently painted my table and would like a clear protectant to keep it clean in the event of a spill. Is it possible to do this without ruining my paint job?

Read the instructions carefully and use a quality brush. I apply it to woodworking projects and lightly sand between coats with 220 grit. The more, in my opinion, the better. Although it is white in the can, it dries completely clear. The white makes it easier to see where the clear has been applied.

Is it possible to use it on a dining table without the glasses leaving rings?

This was used on a dining table, and the glasses did not leave any rings. It has performed admirably across the majority of the table. It was also incredibly simple to use. br>However, I should point out that certain sections have "peeled/worn" away. Now, this could be my fault (poor surface prep) or the fault of the very deep-seated problem. I wasn't using grain filler because I was using grained oak (water may have gotten into the "gaps" in the grain, sat there, and created a spot for even more water to seep beneath the finish). )br>I, for one, will most likely opt for an oil-free option. I'll use this again next time I refinish my dining table, but I wouldn't rule out using it for other projects in the future.

Is it possible to use this as a protective layer over Annie Sloan Chalk Paint?

You can, but you shouldn't if you want Annie Sloan Chalk paint to have the flat, milky finish she's famous for. Even though it's satin, this finish will give it a shine. Wax finish is recommended for chalk paint (which I believe Annie Sloan also makes, but I am not 100%). It is, however, quite costly, and for best results, it should be reapplied every 6 months or so. If you don't want to use wax, General Finishes QTHM High Performance Water Based Topcoat, according to my sources, will keep it looking like chalk paint should. br>(Note to the rest of the world: Chalk paint and chalk BOARD paint are not the same thing. No matter what finish you use, you can't write on Annie Sloan chalk paint.

Everything I read said this wouldn't yellow or affect the color of the piece I was refinishing, but it did
3/5

The only time the official instructions mention using it on paint is when it's being used to cover stains. So, what went wrong (? ) for painting over it with white chalk paint; All of my prior research into this product stated that it would have no effect on the color and that it was used to top coat and seal indoor furniture. Others' online reviews stated that it could be used for chalk paint in this manner. It started out milky white and dried with a yellow haze in streaks, as expected. To refinish an antique, this project required a lengthy, time-consuming process with several stages. The FINAL step was to apply the minwax, and I was extremely disappointed with the results. It appears to have spent the previous 40 years in a smoker's home. If you're trying to keep your true colors underneath it, I would never recommend this product. Maybe for use over stained wood, but never for painting. I'm keeping the product in my possession until I can test it on stained wood. But how come there's so much discoloration? I doubt it would hold true stain colors as well.

WARNING: SIZES ARE IMPORTANT - SIZED FOR A BABY
4/5

I'm hoping that even if it only helps one person, it will be a big help. BEFORE YOU BUY, READ THE OUNCES. br>And if you're anything like me, and even after reading that, you still can't fathom the magnitude of it- Please see the attached image for more information. I'm a complete moron. br> Lol . When I first opened the box, I was taken aback by how TINY the can was. I had anticipated a much larger response. However, it is my fault for failing to read the fine print. I'm hoping that a little goes a long way *crosses fingers*.

Topcoat is excellent
5/5

I used this to give my freshly painted kitchen cabinets a final coat. I applied a thin coat of paint over freshly painted cabinets with a regular paint brush. My cabinets are brand new after two coats. br>br>Warning: Make sure to apply a thin coat and clean up any buildup with a foam brush. It will turn yellow if you apply too much or leave excess in nooks.

It's the perfect top coat for my acrylic paintings
5/5

There isn't a strong odor to it. This is what I use as a gloss top coat for my acrylic paintings, and it's fantastic. It is easy to apply and dries quickly, and it does not have a strong bad odor, in my opinion. This is the top coat to use if you want a glossy finish on your acrylic paintings.

Protect your project with the best sealer available! I'm a big fan of chalk painting
5/5

I've done a lot of work, and while I like the look of a waxed finish, it's not practical for pieces that will be used frequently. It won't withstand watermarks or even regular use. It's simply unworkable. This, however, will happen! br>br>I recently bought a new house that required a complete renovation. I wanted my house to stand out, so I chose chalk painted white wood plank kitchen counters and a stained wood island. Kitchen counters are obviously going to be used, and because they're white, I knew I needed to protect them. I didn't want a kitchen that made me nervous to use. With my white wood counters, everyone thought I was crazy, but I didn't care and I didn't listen. My contractor assembled the wood for me, then I painted and poly'ed them like a madwoman. A round head brush is what I use for poly. For each countertop, I probably applied 6 coats. I sanded every other coat rather than in between each one. br>br>I chose satin minwax for my island, and because it was stained, I used a lot more poly. The stain seeps into the wood when you use it. Paint is applied in layers to coat the wood. You'll need more sealer whenever you use stain. On the island, I probably applied 12 coats because I wanted to make sure it was well-protected. br>br>When we cook, water spills, spaghetti sauce splatters, and grease splatters; all of this is easily cleaned up with a towel or sponge. Water is my preferred mode of transportation. Because it emits little to no odor, minwax is used. The most important thing to remember is not to shake it because you don't want it to bubble. I always use a plastic disposable spoon to stir and apply thin layers of paint. It's not too thin, but it's also not too thick. While applying the poly, you'll notice a milky white color, but this will fade as the poly dries. Because these are kitchen counters, I'll most likely repeat the process after a year, just adding a few more coats to ensure they last. br>br>I've tried a lot of different polymers and sealers, but Minwax is by far the best and most long-lasting!.

For DIY projects, this is an excellent topcoat to use
5/5

SUCCESS! Minwax Polycrylic Semi-Gloss was used in three coats. a gloss finish on a $7 pine craft box stained with Saman water-based stain It turned out beautifully because it was stained with a Cognac-based wood stain. The cheap box was transformed into a work of art, and the Minwax Saman stain combo did the majority of the work for me by highlighting the beautiful wood grain and creating a lit-up look. from- within the glow br>br>Perhaps it was the extra sanding I did between coats of Minwax with 400 grit paper, but the semi-gloss finish seemed to work better. After the third coat, the gloss was quite glossy. It was fine with me- To me, it appears very natural. Over Christmas, I packed the finished piece in my checked luggage, and the Minwax provided enough of a tough coat that the box arrived unscathed. br>br>The best quality is self-confidence. leveling. Brush strokes aren't an issue if you use a good brush. I applied thin coats of Minwax and let it dry for about an hour without streaks or blemishes. I was able to re-enact the scene. 1 coat of paint Without any issues, I was able to work for 2 hours. I didn't keep track of anything or time it in any way. I just went by feel, and it turned out fine; it dries hard and isn't sticky or tacky in the least. br>br>Next up, I'm looking forward to trying the Gloss version- This stuff is completely foolproof, and I'm thinking of using it for a variety of arts and crafts projects!.
