Questions & Answers

Is it possible to apply this as a sealer to a painted cabinet door? I realized I needed to seal the painting after I finished it. I'm hoping I am based on the product's reviews. ?

I've used it on unfinished, stained, and light-colored wood to keep it from yellowing and protect it from spills and stains. You could use it on a painted cabinet door without hesitation. I would apply 2 to 3 coats, sanding lightly with 320 between each coat. Before applying the first coat of paint to the cabinet door, do not sand it.

Is it possible for it to turn yellow?

It's something I use frequently, and it's never yellowed on any light or white-colored furniture I've used it on. It's the first thing I think of when I'm looking for something to eat.

Is the flat finish true to its name?

Hellobr>On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate sheen? The flat will have a sheen of ten, whereas the satin will have a sheen of thirty-five. br>Woodworkers Hardware wishes you a wonderful day.

Is it possible to use this on top of chalk paint outdoors?

I've used it several times over chalk paint and it always turns out beautifully. After three coats and before the final coat, I like to sand with a super fine sandpaper (1600 or higher). It has a silky smooth feel to it.

The kitchen makeover I did for $500 on Amazon
5/5

I'm overjoyed at how well my ridiculously low-budget kitchen renovation turned out. Everything was bought on Amazon, and I did it all myself over the course of a few weekends while pregnant (safely, of course). If I can do it, so can you! br>br>The entire thing (except for the kitchen gadgets-- Just the makeover) cost around $500 and was chosen for its affordability, aesthetics, and ease of application (I was very pregnant and impatient). br>br>I've attached the before and after photos, and I'll go over each section separately in this review. Here's a list of everything we bought for the remodel: 1. br>br>  .

It ruined my piece because it was completely yellow
3/5

I'm not sure how there are so many positive reviews; perhaps I got a bad batch. However, after painting my furniture with chalk paint, I attempted to seal it with this product, but as soon as it began to dry, it turned yellow, completely ruining my furniture. The only saving grace is that it turned yellow so quickly that I had to stop using it before finishing my project. I'm furious that I'll have to redo a painting that I thought I'd completed. Also, I now have to drive to the store (which is quite far away) to find a top coat that actually works. Take a look at my photo to see the difference between the paint before and after the sealer. It's revolting.

It's more of an eggshell sheen than a true "flat" top coat
5/5

I had purchased this flat coat to repaint my kitchen cabinets. This isn't a "true" flat because it has a sheen to it, but it's exactly what I needed. I bought the satin sheen top coat, but it turned out to be more of a semi-gloss. I was looking for something with a more eggshell sheen, and this "flat" coat delivered!.

It's impossible to believe unless you try it for yourself
5/5

I've used a lot of different finishes in the past, but this was a game changer. It spreads rapidly and evenly with no visible artifacts. It took some getting used to in terms of working time, which is short, but it spread so easily that this was not an issue for me and, in fact, made me far more productive. I'd apply quickly, almost like sketching, and then touch-up later. start on the next coat almost immediately after warming up a little. Being water-resistant, I found that three coats was about right. It cleans up easily, but I usually just wrap my brushes in plastic wrap and keep them in the fridge until I'm finished with a job. It dries to a low-gloss finish. br>br> If you've also used General Finishes' Milk paint products, you'll have a flawless finish. I used a foam brush to apply it, and it's so even it looks like it was sprayed on. It has a nice hard finish that is resistant to daily wear and tear and is easy to clean. I used to only use it to refinish cabinets, but I've started using it on baseboards and railings as well. Because it's so simple and quick, I believe that most of my painting projects will benefit from a little extra finishing to save time and money in the long run.

Prosbr>- It's shiny and yellow, but it gets the job done most of the time
4/5

dries quicklybr>- - - - - - - - - - - - - - br>br>Consbr>- Durable, I can't scratch it off with my nailbr>br> dries in a yellowish huebr>- If you change your brush stroke, it leaves streaksbr>- Despite reports of it yellowing, I decided to seal some cabinets I painted and went with this product. The majority of the reviews said "do not use on white paint," so I went with it because I knew my bathroom cabinets weren't white. My "stone gray" turned out to be a little too light. br>br>The product has a yellow tint to it. Granted, I didn't remove the hinges before sealing, so there were a few drips around the hinges that I didn't notice. However, I did it correctly the first time, and I just wanted to get it done without further stripping those old screws. I'm still getting to know my way around. br>br>Anyways, the yellowed drips are shown in the first photo. I'm sure I could sand them down to make them look better. The difference between my "Satin" paint and this "Satin" seal can be seen in the second picture. br>br>The third image shows the interior of my cabinet. It shows that I did up and down brush strokes, then side to side across the bottom. A lot. br>br>The fourth photo shows how yellow the topcoat looks after it has been applied. It's particularly yellow in the cracks, and you can see to the left, just above the door, where I missed a spot where the original paint color is less yellow than the rest due to the topcoat. Would I buy it again? br>br>Would I recommend it to others? Yes, if I'm sealing a paint that's a little darker. Is the present situation satisfactory to me? When I get to my kitchen, I'll have to use a different product because the yellowing disappointed me.

Five out of five stars
5/5

It was a pleasure to work with you, and your work turned out beautifully. A men's sock proved to be the most effective application tool.
