Product Description

An innovative magnet is used in drywall to locate framing studs and marks where studs or screws are on a wall. Once the magnet locates the screw or nail, the magnet holds the fastener to the wall to mark its location.
Put a nail into a notch at the top of the magnet to make it easier to start
To attach a plumb line to the magnet, attach a string to the magnet through the bottom hole with a small washer
An ultrasonic stud finder with a 4-1/4" length contains five permanently magnetized magnets and durable plastic casing
Magnetic shield holds steel inside durable plastic, eliminating the need to store in a toolbox and preventing other tools from attracting magnetism when not in use

Questions & Answers

a tool to find every nail and screw behind my popcorn ceiling. What do I use?

Just tested it on a medium-sized popcorn sample and it worked just

Do you think this is strong enough to hold the ceiling?

I think so. Magnetic attraction attracts the magnet to the nails and screws in the drywall, which helps it locate the stud. The magnetic hold will be determined by how far down the screw/nail is buried under the mud and how strong the screw/nail is. In the past I've never used it on a ceiling, but I've tried it on walls. When it hangs on it usually stays, but some times it If you do not intend to leave your spot, mark it first and then remove it. My carpenter showed me how to use this stud finder, and it is the best I have ever owned. It has never been in a hardware store. I have only seen it Whenever I've used a battery operated one, it's been I have never had a problem with this.

My daughters need to hang two hanging chairs, but I need to locate nails/studs in the ceiling to hang / anchor a sturdy hook? What magnet/stud finder is best for this?

We'll be able to do this. Magnetizing the magnetic field will help you find the first drywall nail or screw in the stud or ceiling joist. You have to move the magnet around until you find the first nail or screw. There should also be another nail 16 inches or so either side of the first nail in the wall. From there, you should be able to figure out which way the joists run. the joists up or down will most likely result in nails much more than 16 inches apart. Therefore, I urge you not to hang the chairs from the same joist and to use a strong hook that is screwed into the joist deeply.

Can it be used to locate studs and nails in a plaster lath construction wall?

Stud finders should not be used with it. Invest in a battery that runs on electricity.

Getting one of these is worth your money for ease of use and accuracy
5/5

My stud finder is a better and more accurate method than my traditional electronic stud finder. The magnet finds the nail heads under the paint and is strong enough to stay on the wall while I mark the studs. I am an AV professional and use this tool Without it, I certainly wouldn't be who I am today! There's no need for batteries to be replaced, so I don't have to deal with that. As an avid fan of electronic stud finders, I find them to be inaccurate, as they show when there are two strata of sheetrock through a wall, so this was a welcome improvement. This is a great book!.

You are wasting your money if you do this
3/5

As a result of reviews, I purchased it. Your money will not be wasted. You are NOT looking at a strong magnet here! The app took me over five minutes to find one nail in my wall, and even then it was just barely able to find It took me a couple of attempts to find one screw using this stud finder. I kept going up and down, side to side, all over the place. I found that it worked marginally better than a cheaper magnetic stud finder I had bought, but not by much. From where I thought the stud should be, I measured 16 inches from the mark and marked it with a pencil. When the nail was found, it was an inch away from that mark. When I got out my old Stanley electronic stud finder, it located the studs in seconds, edge to edge and center, throughout the After 22 plus years, that electronic stud finder proved to be spot on, even though I had doubted it for quite some time. Why I was thinking I needed something else is beyond me. We have learned from this experience.

This is a weak magnet for its size and weight, considering the weight and size of the product
3/5

The magnets are heavy and feel solid. However, they do attach to the screws and aren't very strong at all. Whether you use a magnetic stud finder or not, additional steps are required to ensure the stud center is accurate. It is the magnets that are too weak for the stud finder to remain fixed on the wall by itself so it can be marked or used for other purposes while hanging on the wall as a stud finder. Because of this, 3 valuable stars were deducted. I am keeping the black and yellow product, which attaches to the wall and stays there every time. It also includes a bubble level, so it is about the same price as this product. I am returning this one instead. Here's some information that may be of use. Magnets usually find screws or nails from the opposite direction after they locate one. If you run the magnet in the opposite direction, it often finds another screw or nail next to the initial one. If the magnet is attracted to two points, even if they appear to be next to one another, because a common 2x4 wood stud is only 1 1/2 inches thick, this will be evident. This suggests (but is not always) that the center of the stud will be in the middle of those two You should always verify the height of heavy objects, especially if they are hanging from the ceiling. The process makes more sense and is very easy if you have seen a home under construction in your area or even if you watch closely on HGTV.

The product is of high quality
5/5

There has been no luck finding this on Home Depot. The price on Amazon might be cheaper, so I believe it might be a better buy. The quality is great and gets the job done.

To find studs, you don't need a fancy tool
5/5

The things listed here are amazing. During my work on placing my new TV in my garage, I needed a stud finder. Besides, I didn't want to shell out money for a stud finder, and after looking into it, I discovered that most people suggest using a strong magnet. There are little holes to hang a plum bob in the little holes, they have a cover so you can throw them in a tool bag or toolbox. These things are strong. It was only $16 so I purchased two so I could mark both holes at the same time. I highly recommend this product.

I consider this find to be one of the best of all time
5/5

Having known about this event years ago would have been very useful to me. If a hidden fastener is present, you can locate it by using this method. In this case, I used it to find the fasteners holding my old By removing the base of the screw, tap a Phillips die into it, and holy smokes, you have the dead center of the screw. Fortunately, there's a screw for you! The thing I love is this one. Compared to a stud finder, it is much better. You will feel a resistance as you pass a drywall screw if you run it across the wall with it. It takes no time at all and there are no batteries to replace!.

Compared to all battery operated stud finders I've ever owned, this thing works better
5/5

Compared to all battery operated stud finders I've ever owned, this thing works better. When I use the battery type at home it does not work as well as it does on the demo wall in the store. There is nothing more to this than a magnet that finds the screw or nail in drywall and sticks to it.

The purchase was not the best
3/5

You can buy it for a low price and it is okay. It would be worth spending a little bit more money on an electric one since you could keep it forever and not have to worry about human error leaving holes in the wall. My plaster walls would be much easier to fix if I had started with an electronic device. Much faster and easier to use.
