It was roughly made for a Crown product, but, with a little TLC, it can be seen as a product that sells for twice the price. There were some things like a ridge where the finish met the unfinished edge. The hole was made with eased edges, but there was a bit of tearout where it was made. It works well. It would have been better if the beam fitted the hole more snugly but it is reliable in the direction that counts. My wheel gauges are all knifed, but I wanted one that was more portable. Check out this format tool from Lee Valley if you're looking for something a little nicer. The Veritas Anniversary or a Tite-Mark wheel gauge are my top choices if you want a metal version of the standard wheel gauge.
Putting the thumb screw nut too close to the edge of the wood is a bad idea. There is also an end grain on the thumb screw, which makes it even This mine had a crack in it. Sending it back was not an option. Since the design flaw is not my fault, I did not request a replacement. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful sight.
The next step is to install the fence. The majority of low-income people I know are shady Mass-produced at a price people can afford In today's marketplace, manufactured hand tools are more of a kit rather than a readymade product The item is to be used. There is no exception to the rule with this gauge. The lacquer on the piece was enthusiastically applied, but on wiping it down with lacquer thinner, that problem went away. The slide action of the beam through the fence is fine once the beam is cleaned off. Next, my idea of sharp is far different from that of many tool manufacturers. It took only a few moments in front of the stones for the cutter to begin operating properly. It is also important to me that the cutter has a U shape rather than a V shape so that it is even more easily adjustable. The cutting gauge is quite usable all in all. No marking gauge or cutting gauge is ever too many.
The cutting gauge is nicely made, and the design is very simple and clean. Anyone who is serious about woodworking must have this book.
This is a very disappointing Crown product. The channel for beam is filled with a lot of wood filler filler, and it has quite a few unfilled gouges.
It was a little disappointing to find the quality a bit worse than I expected.
The only time I have used it is a couple of times since I have only had it a short time. The blade came sharp, and it appears to be square out of the box, as well as the screw tip and threads, as well as the screw. The design is also very pleasing to the eye.
This tool is excellent for marking. In my opinion, this is more appealing than the one with the rolling wheel.
