In those days, it was made in the US of steel tape. I finally fell apart after 30 years. The Starrett 50 ft. was installed in its place. It is a Chinese tape. This lasted a total of 7 days before the plastic pin holding the handle to the handle This pin should have been made of steel, but the plastic version was chosen to save a few cents on production and to boost profit margins. The broken handle on the tape gave me as good a measurement as I could, so I used it as best I could. The tape itself broke three days after it was created. The tool allowed me to use it for a period of 10 days.
