Make sure it fits your needs before ordering an additional 8' grading rod. So far, everything is running smoothly. However, the grading rod that comes with the kit is only 8 feet long, so keep that in mind when making your decision. I needed to order a 16-foot rod from Bosch on Amazon. It performs admirably. br>br>While I haven't tested the distance to 1/4 mile, I have stretched it to about 600 feet and it worked flawlessly. The remote is on the sensor, which is why I bought it. There's also a slope function included. Both of these features are extremely effective. The manual is nearly useless. br>br> They used the cheapest newsprint they could find, and the instructions were terrible. However, because the machine is intuitive in general, the manual is only needed to understand a few of the more advanced features. The tripod is sturdy and simple to set up. Although not "industrial grade," it should be adequate for most purposes. One advantage of the 8' grading stick is that it fits perfectly into the tripod's folded legs, reducing the number of items you need to carry to just two. One big box for the laser (I assume it's just for protection) and the tripod, which has a built-in carrying strap.
Spend your money on a better camera like a Topcon or a Leica. From the start, this unit was a nightmare. It's a hit-or-miss situation as to whether or not the receiver will pick up the laser. The laser has only been used a few times since its purchase. I can recall three instances where the receiver failed to pick up the laser when I attempted to use it. I had to use the laser in the early morning or late evening with a measuring tape on a couple of occasions. Err 007 has been displayed on the screen recently. Turn it off and on again, according to the manual, and if the problem persists, contact Bosch. This thing has been nothing but a headache since it was first introduced. Spend your $1,000 on a better unit once again. It's worth it just to avoid the aggravation!.
I've had the laser level for two years and have only used it four times for a total of about 20 hours; it worked well right out of the box, and we got right to work. The following are the reasons for my low rating. br>br>During operation, the receiver will shut down automatically, most likely to save batteries, but I won't be able to turn it back on unless I walk it over to the laser and reprogram it. Second, the unit's battery life is terrible. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I took it out of the box a few days ago and it wouldn't turn on; I heard a tick tick tick. I tried charging it overnight, but it didn't work, and I went to two different Bosch service centers, both of which told me that lasers aren't serviced. I attempted to contact Bosch customer service, but they were unable to assist me. It takes hours to get someone in a chat window because it appears that they no longer provide phone support, as I was immediately redirected to the online help and the phone hung up on me when I called the number. I'm not troubleshooting the unit myself, but my assumption is that the batteries have depleted to the point where they are no longer recognized by the laser's electronics; however, because the batteries are proprietary, I'm stuck buying them online and crossing my fingers that this is the issue. I could spend a lot of money and mail the unit to Bosch, but I'm not sure I trust them anymore. I should have gotten more use (hours) out of this $1,000 piece of equipment, to be honest. With all of my other power tools, I've never had an issue. I believe Bosch crammed far too much proprietary electronics, batteries, and anti-theft features into the product. It will always be a problem with theft technology.
It's in MM, which I didn't expect.
It was impossible to turn the unit. When the item arrived, it was dead. After an hour of charging, the unit would not turn on. br>I called Bosch and was told to reset the unit, but it didn't work. From the unit, there is a slight ticking. br>The carry case's seal was broken. tack. In addition, there were no signs of shipping damage on the box. br>In regards to the certificate of testing and compliance signed by two Bosch employees, I agree with the other reviewers. . . . It is meaningless.
The battery dies quickly, which is a problem with this laser.
UPDATE: Since that purchase in 2015, I've had three of these lasers, all of which have been sent as replacements, and they have no record of it, despite the fact that I've probably spent 10 hours on the phone with them about the issues. My third one, which has probably 10 hours on it, is currently being repaired, and despite the fact that they said it would be free, they just took my credit card number to charge me. br>br>The display only turns on infrequently, but when it does, it displays errors and will not function, such as the laser head not spinning or the receiver not receiving the laser. br>br>I understand that this is the cheapest digital slope laser on the market, but do not purchase it. Original Review: br>br>Original Review: br>br>Original Review: br>br>O This item was purchased new and shipped in a hurry for a concrete job, but it failed to work. The laser was not recognized by the remote's receiving area. I contacted the Bosch Senior Laser Tech, who couldn't offer me much assistance other than to tell me that I had a defective unit and that the best course of action was to return it. The irony is that there is a certificate of testing and compliance on the inside of the package, signed by two Bosch employees, which I took as a written guarantee of its quality and performance, but it still didn't work. This is the first time I've written a negative review.
