There is no lasting effect of this, as others have noted. It is an inexpensive system to buy, but to replace filters is very expensive.
I found the setup to be quite simple. There's something about that water that doesn't taste right to me. Running water through a charcoal filter should "sugar" it up. There is no such thing. As an old-fashioned measure, I still run it through a Brita to make it less "chemical" tasting.
