Questions & Answers

Is this made of waterproof materials?

Other people's responses are contradictory. The top door has a foam seal around the edge, which isn't very useful because the delivery person frequently forgets to close it, but the top door hinge is designed so that most of the water that collects in it can drain out without being dumped inside, and the bottom door has beveled top and side edges to direct water to the bottom, where there are two drain holes to let out any water that does get inside. tenacious

What country does this item originate from?

China, like everything else these days, is made in China!

Is it possible to use this in the open air? Features such as a powder-coated finish to prevent rust on the exterior / outside?

Powder Coating with outdoor rated powder coats is used on all Mail Boss products. Steel that has been galvanized is also used. If a section of the powder coat is scratched or rubbed away, rainwater will leave a white residue. This is the zinc evaporating from the steel before it rusts. To touch up and prevent rusting over time, you can use a rust preventative paint that matches our boxes, as well as a clear wax to help protect the powder coat on a regular basis. When done on a regular basis, just like with a car, this keeps things looking new for a long time.

Is there a location where incoming mail can be deposited?

It's a box with a slot for securing items placed inside. You can put an incoming or outgoing label on the box.

Critical design flaws and thick metal This was purchased to replace a flimsy mailbox that my neighbors and I had in front of our house
3/5

The thick metal is good, and the special lock/clasp is also nice. br>br>There is a gasket to keep water out of the top slot (which is used by the postal carrier), but none on the bottom. As a result, the bottom compartment leaks like a sieve, drenching all of our mail. Why would they be so cheap that they don't even include a bottom gasket? There's also a small magnet that helps keep the top door closed, but it's only on one side! This is another example of the manufacturer's cheap decision to not include two magnets (one for each side) so it stays closed more easily. My mail carrier now leaves it open, allowing even more rain to enter. Awesome. br>br>I'm going to try to attach my own gasket and a second magnet, but if that fails, I'm going back. Please purchase a mailbox from a different vendor - If there's even the slightest chance of getting wet, this one isn't worth it.

The situation is not safe
3/5

There is a significant distance between the letter drop and the trash can. Because there is a large gap between the door and the bin, letters, checks, and other items could easily be fished out of the bottom bin. I've uploaded some photos showing the 2 5/8" gap between the letter door and the bottom bin, as stated by the manufacturer. It's the perfect size and color, but I'm in need of something more secure, so I'll be returning it.

Letters will love it
4/5

Magazines are giving me some trouble. This mailbox is quite large. The metal isn't flimsy in the least and has a solid feel to it. It can hold several days' worth of mail and is designed in such a way that reaching down into it to grab something would be nearly impossible. This is a fantastic option for a weekend getaway. br>br>On the other hand, the design makes it more difficult for our mail carrier to slip thicker magazines through the slot. We come home every now and then to find a magazine that is half-read. in/half- not in the slot It's physically large enough to hold several magazines, but the anti-virus software prevents it from doing so. It is more difficult to sneak them in because of the design.

The box is quite sturdy
5/5

Very good quality. A standard box no longer suffices in today's world of rampant mail theft and fraud. Don't waste your money on cheap boxes made of compressed tin foil from the discount hardware store; I have video of the female thief ripping it open with her bare hands. Weatherstripping and three laser-engraved laser-engraved laser-engraved laser-engraved laser-engraved laser-engraved laser-engraved laser-engraved laser-engraved laser-engraved laser-engraved laser-engraved laser-engraved laser-engraved laser-engraved laser cut keys. Laser cut keys were once only found on high-end automobiles, but now they've made their way to this mailbox! So, while the lock is nearly impossible to pick, don't lose your keys because you won't be able to duplicate them at a mall kiosk. To resist prying and cutting, the box is made of heavy gauge steel. br>br>There are two minor flaws, neither of which is enough to detract from the overall rating. Both of them have something to do with the top door. To begin with, I wish it were internally weighted so that when you let go of the handle, it automatically closes. It's currently designed in such a way that if your postal worker forgets to close it, it just stays open. Unless it's raining, there's no problem. Second, and this is just paranoia on my part, I wish the handle itself was welded to the sheet metal rather than being held in place by simple Phillips screws that are easily tampered with. M4- is what I went with. Torx screws with a tamper-resistant diameter of 10mm. br>br>Apart from that, I'd buy it again.

A stylish mailbox with a lock that prevents theft
5/5

a mail access slot that is deterrent This product has a classy appearance and a theft-deterrent mail access door that most other wall-mounted mailboxes lack. It was simple to install the box beneath the eaves next to my front door. Other units' standard locks and keys pale in comparison to the round security key. Sure, this model was a little more expensive than others, but having the peace of mind that extracting mail via the top access slot would be EXTREMELY difficult is money well spent in my book. The only problem is that the mailman thought the box wouldn't hold the large number of magazines that had been delivered one day, so he dumped them all on the tray below. The mailman was mistaken; all magazines would have fit (I confirmed this), so the problem is with the USPS, not the box. There's no reason to believe this product won't last a long time.

To Prevent Casual Theft, Get a Sturdy Drop Box for Indoor Use
5/5

This was purchased as a gift for a student in elementary school. It was nailed to the inside of a closed closet door. It's in a busy office where security isn't always guaranteed. This drop box was created to provide a secure location for people to drop payments for various school activities, especially when using cash, so it wouldn't be taken from an open cardboard box that was otherwise being used. The product is of high quality. In the indoor setting, it's more than sturdy enough for our needs. We couldn't find a better price for a similar product, and the price-to-strength ratio was excellent.

Not Big Enough to Serve as an Outdoor Mailbox Larger envelopes or bundles of mail will not fit in the slot
3/5

Bundled mail, particularly with some larger items, will simply not fit, rendering the key useless.

As a dropbox, this is fantastic
5/5

It's not even close to being a USPS mailbox. It's a great, sturdy dropbox, which is why I gave it five stars as a dropbox. br>It didn't work for me as an unauthorized USPS mailbox, despite the fact that I had hoped it might based on the description. br>Unfortunately, it only works if you drop off ten envelopes at a time; my mailman is great, but he isn't a saint. br>So this goes back, and my search continues. br>I highly recommend it if you need it for keys, single envelopes, or other small items. br>One magazine can fit through the door, but the second is blocked by the first.
