Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use this for a single 5' wide door? I'm not sure if I can use it for one large door because there are two rails connected together. ?

I used these to hang a heavy, custom-built door. The only snag is that you'll need a stud to secure it. The pre-drilled holes are a waste of time. Most likely, you'll have to drill new holes that line up with your existing studs.

Is it possible for me to place an additional order for two rails?

We ordered two of them, and they complement each other beautifully.

Was it just me, or did anyone else have trouble reading the instructions? For one thing, everything is in metric, and two, I require written instructions rather than just pictures. ?

I didn't use the instructions, but if you need something to refer to, look at the kits available at Home Depot and download the PDF instructions. To accommodate the wide range of different fitment options available, you'll need to fabricate installation solutions for this kit (as I did). If my memory serves me correctly, I had to redrill some mounting holes on the lateral bars in order for the installation to line up properly with the wall studs, as well as fabricate custom stops and a custom lower guide assembly. The kit is only meant to serve as a guide.

When it comes to sizing, how do you go about doing it?

width of opening (you'll need an extra inch added to that opening size, if you want the door to cover it and not flap in and out.
2. multiply the size of the raw opening by two. Essentially, when the door is opened, it must slide somewhere.
SO. 36" opening, for example, to cover with a door. 36" 1" (left side of door) 1" (right side of door)br>= 38" X 2br>= 76" aka. 8 ft. would work, but you might have to trim the endsbr>app 20"br>Note: if’you’are okay with the door NOT sliding and revealing the entire 36” opening, and you could live with the door being 92% open; you might be able to get 72" x 6'

It was well worth the money
4/5

Given the price, I was impressed with the quality of this track, as well as the associated rollers and hardware; however, the instructions, as many others have stated, are terrible. Partly because the measurements are all metric, so you'll have to convert (assuming you're in the US), and partly because it's just one piece of paper with a lot of room for guesswork because the pictures aren't very clear. For this, I had to deduct one star. Having said that, even if you aren't particularly handy, it can be installed successfully. The following are some of the takeaways from our experience. br>br>You'll need to decide whether you want to drill more holes or use a header board because the pre-drilled holes aren't as big as the ones on the header board. The drilled holes aren't 16 inches in diameter. Some have claimed they are, and based on what I've read in a few reviews, I can assure you they are not. I'm not sure what they're measuring with those people. They're about 17" long, which won't work for standard stud spacing, so you'll need to either drill additional holes at 16" or use a header board. We didn't drill holes because the extra holes will be visible. You'd have to plug the holes somehow, and try to do so in a way that was inconspicuous, which could be difficult. br>br>We used a standard 1x4 piece of wood from Home Depot for this. It was only $4, I believe. Because we only received a 10-foot piece, we had to cut the metal track. To make the track slightly shorter than the header board, I cut about a foot off the end of each of the 6' track pieces. If you're going to paint or stain your header board, I recommend starting there. We didn't, and I sincerely wish we had. br>br>Now all you have to do is level the header board, center it, and attach it to the studs; we marked where the studs were first, used 3" screws, and then leveled the board; ideally, you want the track centered on your header board, so spend some time determining how high off the floor the doors need to be, and get the board installed in the right spot. It's difficult to grasp. Our doors are higher off the ground than we would have liked, but they still look good. br>br>Now that the header board is in place, all you have to do is place the track on the board (with the center joined), level it, and mark the locations of each hole. Make sure this is leveled properly. If the track isn't level, the doors will open. Some of the holes may line up with studs if you're lucky, but it's fine if they don't (none of ours did). Now all you have to do is plan ahead. Drill the holes, then use spacers and lag bolts to secure the track. Tip: Check to see if the spacers are in the correct position. There are two ends: one that is larger and one that is smaller. NOT against the track, but rather against the wall or header board. This was discovered the hard way for us. When the rollers are turned backwards, they hit every single spacer and bounce over them to the next section. It's a bit of a screamer. It rolls very smoothly when they're properly installed. br>br>Finally, if you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, consider using the words "innovative" and " Ensure that the rollers are installed evenly on the door so that there is no gap when the two doors are closed. Even though I triple-checked the measurements, there is a small gap near the bottom half. The roller was probably pushed over just enough by a slight walking of the drill bit. Furthermore, the bolts could not penetrate our doors because they were too thin (in fact, they were fairly standard size). To fully tighten the nut, I needed to locate and use a spacer on the back. br>br>Overall, the slight confusion and extra math work are worth it to get this for a fraction of the cost of what you'd get at Home Depot. When it's up, it looks fantastic.

For a large custom-made door, this is perfect
4/5

A star was deducted because the holes were not at standard studs for the United States, necessitating the use of an additional piece of wood (see photos).

It appears to be fantastic! Install these slowly and carefully
5/5

For me, this was a do-it-yourself project. Home Depot was where I got all of my lumber. My barn doors were cut and put together. To go with it, I got this hardware. It appears to be fantastic! Install these slowly and carefully. Make sure you have a minimum of two people.

It is not advisable to use a door hanger kit
3/5

I would not recommend this door hanger. It's advertised as having an 8-foot bar, but it's actually two 4-foot bars joined together by a screw hole split. All dimensions are specified in millimeters, and standard engineering practices for screw hole placement are disregarded. Standard engineering practices call for screw holes to be located center to center, but the instructions provided go from center to outer radius. br>This hanging kit is not something I would recommend.

Measurements are impossible because the studs don't line up
4/5

The only reason we didn't give it a five star rating is because the studs in whatever country these came from must not be the same as they are in the United States. To make it work, we had to drill more holes in the metal, as these will be used to support the weight on the studs. My only other gripe is that the measurements are in millimeters, and I don't have a millimeter tape. Also, if you don't know what the measurement of H 22 mm is, neither do I nor Google. As a result, I had to improvise a way to hang it. Apart from those two flaws, it's fantastic! It also includes additional bolts to accommodate various door thicknesses.

I am very pleased with the hardware
4/5

I am very pleased with the hardware. My major gripes are the same as others'. It appears to be sturdy and should last a long time. The instructions are in metric and are not very clear. I suggest watching a few YouTube videos on how to install barn door hardware. It's well worth your time, and there are a couple of hints as well. Spacers that go between the bar and the wall are included in the hardware package. Ensure that the large ends of the table are against the wall. The bar is divided into two sections. The hole spacing is different, despite the fact that they are the same length. Don't make the same mistake I did and assume they're the same. Now I'm left with a couple of extra holes that need to be filled. Aside from that, it's a fantastic deal.

A fantastic barn door kit that can be adjusted to fit any opening
5/5

I recently purchased and remodeled a mobile home in preparation for resale. I used this kit and two light-weight hollow core doors from my local lumber yard to redo the closet doors, and I used handles from an outside gate kit to replace the closet door handles. They were a perfect match for the railing and rollers included in this kit. The final touch for making the doors snap shut was a magnetic clasp between them. Each set of completed doors costs around $150. Compared to the going rate of $400, this is a significant discount. Furthermore, you can cut these rails to fit the wall where you'll be mounting them, so you don't have to use the entire 12 foot length. So one wall is 9' long with a closet opening of 5', while the other is 11' long with a closet opening of 6 feet. When I sold the house again. br>br> These closet doors with barn doors were incredible. One of the customers' favorite upgrades was the closet doors, which they mentioned every time I showed the house. I was able to sell the house in less than two weeks. The barn door kit was well worth the money, and it added a sophisticated touch to any room. This is a product that I will definitely purchase again!.
