I'm very pleased with the product's quality, and the price is comparable to or better than that of similar products I've seen. It is unlikely that the average homeowner will be able to complete the installation. The reason for this is as follows: The holes for anchoring this to the wall are spaced 16" apart, which is ideal if you can center it and then hit the studs all the way across or if you have a solid header. I didn't have either, and drywall anchors won't hold up against the weight of the doors and the hardware. I replaced the lag bolts with 3/8" x 8" bolts and secured it on both sides with a piece of finished hardwood (basically sandwiching it between the drywall/studs).
Before installing, make sure you measure twice or three times. Except for the fact that if you're mounting over a door frame, you'll need to account for the extra depth, the directions are very clear and easy to follow. The instructions are for mounting over a hole that does not have a doorway frame. To clear the door frame, we had to first mount a 1'x3' behind it (see image 2). Make sure the bolts on the mounting hardware clear the door frame by measuring it. The bolts that come with the standard shipment are also too long for 1 3/8' doors. Due to the slimmer door (also ordered on Amazon), the acorn nuts they provide will not tighten. After contacting the company, I received a free replacement set of shorter bolts. It took a week for the package to arrive. Because the bar is so heavy, it's easier to do it with two people. Overall, I am pleased with the product and the final outcome.
My room was transformed when I widened my closet door!.
The instructions were terrible, and some of the measurements were off. (Ex: The holes that you'll need to drill into your door to attach the hanger. ) I wouldn't mind doing it again now that I've done it, but getting started took a half-day. We built our own pantry door, and it appears to roll smoothly so far, and we like how it looks. We did notice, however, that we were missing the other hangers when we got to the second door. This is extremely aggravating. I called Amazon and they were extremely helpful, but they informed me that there is no phone number for the company and that I would have to email them. I did so right away (it was Friday afternoon), and I received a response from them on Monday morning. It's now Thursday, and after numerous emails, I received one this morning stating that my missing part was being shipped and that a tracking number would be provided. I'll be satisfied as long as I get what I paid for in a timely manner. I don't like the fact that you have to deal with customer service solely via email. Having said that, if you take your time and measure correctly, you should be able to figure it out. Unless you've installed a lot of them before, don't expect this to be a two-hour project. In addition, if you're lucky, your studs will line up with the holes in the rail. We weren't so fortunate, and had to resort to using a header. br>NOTE: THIS PAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED. I eventually received all of my missing hardware and was able to reinstall our other door. Because we didn't account for the overlay between the inside and outside doors, we ended up with a 6 inch gap. To compensate for the gap, we removed the brackets and repositioned them. My final thoughts are that attempting to explain or read about the process until you have completed it can be difficult. Now that I understand how it works, I would definitely use this hardware again.
Everything was going well until I hung the doors on the track and noticed that the outside bypass door hung 1/2 inch lower than the inside bypass door. I triple checked the locations for the holes on the doors for installing the roller wheels and discovered that when I hung the doors on the track, the outside bypass door hung 1/2 inch lower than the inside bypass door. I'm not sure how that happened because both doors are the same length, but the roller hardware was missing, which caused the door to hang lower. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> New roller hardware was sent by the company, and it was a perfect fit.
These appear to be of good quality, but you will need to do your own measuring when installing the door hardware because the measurements in the instructions were incorrect, and the bolts that go through the door were too long, so we had to hacksaw the ends off to make them fit. It looks good up there, and the door guides prevent the doors from swinging into each other. We were able to save a significant amount of money by completing the project ourselves.
I like the way it looks, but I have a couple of criticisms: for one thing, there are no instructions. Installation was a little tricky and we ended up having to move the inside rollers, which meant we had to fill in two large holes in our very expensive doors, but it wasn't a big deal because I was able to print them off line. It sticks out a little further than I anticipated once installed, and there's about a 3-inch gap on the right side of the closet. It isn't my favorite, but I'll get used to it. Finally, the left door always bounces open a few inches when you close it. This is extremely inconvenient, and I have no idea how to resolve the situation.
