Questions & Answers

If I'm replacing something similar, I'll use these. non-style, soft- Is it necessary to replace just one or both hinges to achieve the soft-closing effect? Is there any effect that is close?

If the door is small and light, only one soft close may be required, according to the Blum website. If you're using two soft close hinges per door, you can disable the feature in one of them if necessary to achieve the desired effect.

Is a 25mm Forstner bit or a 45mm Forstner bit appropriate?

Drill the hinge cup to a depth of 35mm.

Is it true that the screws come with hinges?

This hinge is listed in two different places. One listing includes screws, while the other does not. Please read the product specifications, which will state whether the product comes "with screws" or "without screws."

Which Kreg jig setting do you use with this soft close hinge 38N to get a 1/2 in overlay when using a Kreg jig?

With an aperture of 18, I had to use the 3 (3mm) setting. Shaker style door stock is 5mm (23/32" or just under 3/4" thick). 4 drew the outer door edge too close to the frame for comfort--different cabinet door edge styles will differ-- Shaker styles with almost no outer-wear, on the other hand, are a good fit. With the edge routing around the door border removed, 3 appears to be the best option. At longer distances, such as four feet, more traditional frames with routed edges may be acceptable.

They are simple to set up
5/5

This hinge was installed on all of the cabinets in the house by me. They are simple to set up. I've included a video of the cabinets before and after the Blumotion soft close hinges were installed so you can see the difference. On the smaller cabinets, I only needed to replace one hinge per cabinet door to achieve the soft close effect; on the larger cabinet doors (22" X 40"), I needed to replace two of the installed hinges with Blumotion hinges to achieve the desired effect. If the installed hinges are of the same size, replacing and balancing each hinge takes only a few minutes. A great way to stop cabinet doors from slamming shut.

It really works
5/5

The Blum hinges were a perfect fit for the slots of the 1/2" standard hinges they replaced. On the cabinet door side of the hinge, there is a light grey switch that goes from light (0) to strong (1) damping. To change the speed at which the cabinet door closes, install two hinges per door and choose between both strong damping, both light damping, or one strong and one light damping. I've included a close-up of the situation. to the review, an image of a hinge in the 0 position Close the cabinet door once to allow the hinge to adjust the damping after changing the hinge setting. The hinges are packaged together in a small cardboard box, along with the attachment screws, which are packaged separately in a plastic bag. There was nothing in the packaging to keep the hinges from moving around, but they all worked perfectly and were free of damage when they arrived.

Perfect replacement for Blum 1/2" Overlay Hinges (not soft close) that are 30 years old
5/5

Our 30-year-old cabinets began to open and close improperly, and it became clear that the old Blum hinges had failed. They're mostly nickeled metal, but the rotation range is covered by plastic inserts. You must choose hinges that mount in the same manner as your current ones with extreme caution. Some attach to the face (outside) of the cabinet frame, while others, such as these, attach to the inside edge. br>br>I was a little worried about whether the hinge to edge distances were correct or not, but they are perfectly compatible with the non-standard hinge to edge distances. The Blum 1/2' Overlay is available in a Blumotion (soft close) version. I took out the old hinges and screwed these in place using the same two screw holes. The old hinges, on the other hand, used two screws to secure the hinge to the cabinet frame, whereas this model only has one large screw. As a result, I carefully measured each pair of two holes on the fram and drilled another 1/8" hole between them. Some of the older hinges had two holes, which was unusual. Others should be spaced 1/2" apart and others should be spaced 1-inch apart. Regardless, the hinges went on perfectly by centering the new drill hole in the middle of the old holes. To be sure, measure each hinge and make a note of it. It's best if you use a ruler with 1/16" increments. br>br>Having a helper hold the door while the hinge screws are driven into the cabinet frame (attaching door to frame) is the easiest way to do this. Work together to remove the doors (we did one or two at a time), then have one person remove the old hinges and replace them with new hinges while the other person measures and drills the new holes in the cabinet frame. After that, both of you can work together to keep the door in place and secure the hinges to the cabinet frame. br>br>The hinges can be adjusted to move the door away from the frame (A) as well as away from the hinge (B). For single doors, I didn't need to make any adjustments. However, for double doors that close together, I had to back the screw all the way out towards the middle of the hinge to allow the doors to close together without binding. I believe that older doors have swelled and may have become loose, requiring more space to close properly. The hinge is attached to the frame with slotted holes and one screw, allowing for some adjustment up and down for double door height matching. br>br>These hinges are fantastic. If you give the door a firm push to close it, it will slow down and then ooze to a close very gently. However, there is one word of caution. They kind of spring open to 105 degrees when opened to 90 degrees. If the door opens into a corner, it will slam against the opposing door/wall, making a loud noise. In this case, make sure to purchase Blum COMPACT hinge restrictors for each hinge (approximately $5 per 20). The restrictors only allow the hinge to open to 87 degrees, allowing full access to the cabinet while ensuring that it does not hit the corner cabinet or the wall. br>br>These soft close hinges have made a significant difference in our lives. There will be no more slamming cabinet/cabinet doors! It reduces cabinet door wear and tear and is extremely quiet. If you only need to replace a couple of worn-out door hinges, I recommend that you upgrade ALL of your cabinet doors in that area to the same type of hinge. We simply replaced the broken hinges/doors, but we became accustomed to giving them a firm push to close, and when it turns out to be one of the doors with older style hinges, it goes BANG. Now that all of the door hinges have been upgraded to Blumotion soft close style, the kitchen is much quieter, and I no longer cringe when I hear bangs and wonder what damage will be done to the door.

This supple-feeling garment The close hings are fantastic! They're also a good deal

This supple-feeling garment The close hings are fantastic! They're also a good deal. br>br>They take some time to adjust and make exactly how you want them, but once they're set up, they're very nice. I have a video of my doors closing, and we have the settings pretty high so there's little to no noise when they close.

The most incredible DIY project I've ever seen! One of the best and easiest DIY projects I've ever done, and it's also relatively inexpensive! It only took me a few hours to install one or two of these in each of 15 cabinet doors (two makes the door close even slower)
5/5

I adore them so much that I find myself making excuses to open and close the doors for the sheer pleasure of watching them close slowly. br>br>Watch the installation and adjustment videos on YouTube. Once you get the hang of the three adjustment screws, they work great for aligning the doors, which took me no time at all. Also, check out the restrictors at Woodworkers Express for a dime each; they were a nice addition to keep doors from slamming into each other and walls. br>br>Believe me when I say that installing these Blumotion hinges on your cabinet doors will become one of your favorite DIY projects.

For old cabinets, this is a great upgrade
5/5

We replaced the old external hinges with these beautiful Austrian-made ones. softened - I'm very pleased with the closed hinges. If you're doing the job yourself, the Kreg Tool Company's concealed hinge jig is a great place to start. This is going to make the job a whole lot easier. br>br>Because the hinges are highly adjustable, it's simple to achieve good alignment between the doors and the cabinet. The soft- Because the close damper on individual hinges can be turned off, smaller, lighter doors only require one damper to operate properly. Blum's online tutorials are fantastic. Make certain that the hinge you choose is appropriate for your application. They make a lot of them.
