This is something I would give some serious thought to The choice between vinegar and bleach is a constant struggle for me. It has been quite a while since I had any contact with It was bought in order to get rid of mineral spots and to provide extra cleaning. When I used the kit I noticed no difference from using bleach and vinegar only.
It's the same company that makes the GE brand of ice machines, First Build.

I bought this because my Opal is my baby, and I thought I would need to take care of it. There are certainly better ways to clean Opals, but this is not the one. In addition, my parents are also using vinegar diluted with white, and have found it works best for them. The product will not be purchased again and I cannot recommend it in good conscience.
The price is way too high. It appears like half the cleaner is spilled out when there is such a small amount in the bottles. My baby ice maker came with a cleaner that I purchased in hopes it would eliminate the need to clean it in order for it to work for five Not much good came of it. Took the time to read the directions carefully and followed them meticulously to have it blink yellow at me and make 3 ice cubes when I was My house has been cleaned many times with every cleaner, even those containing citric acid. My luck is that I can get half a day of ice before it blinks, which means I need to clean it Throughout my use of this device, I have only used distilled water. The long and short of it is that if your opal blinks the cleaning ring at you all the time, do not waste your money, it will not work.
It confused me to find that both of my solution cleaning bottles were half full, but Attached is a picture of what I am referring to. This product appeared to work well, but it would be nice if the bottles were full of product. Additionally, it comes with two solution bottles but only one sponge and one cleaning cloth, so if the solution is meant for two uses there should be two sponges and two cleaning cloths. In the next 6 months I will have to find the right sponge and cloth to use for the next cleaning.
I attempted cleaning my Opal Ice Maker with bleach multiple times in order to restore ice making capabilities. However, I kept getting little to no ice despite trying the troubleshooting tips. I later bought another Opal ice maker and was about to set it up when I read some of the reviews. To be honest, I was skeptical when reading these reviews. I found cleaning to be simple and straightforward. You will receive 2 bottles of cleaning solution with this item. There was only one bottle I needed. As a result, I had a pleasant surprise. My only choice now is to send the new ice maker back (I may keep it for the game room since it is so nice).
The purchase has been a great experience. The green light (dirty signal) began appearing on our Opal we got last November after the lighting indicator had been on for a few days. Recently it came back on the same day after I had It doesn't get used more than once a week and a half and my family loves the ice. By using the Opal cleaning kit and following the directions, even though it was a lengthy process, I am so happy I got this kit since the ice is crystal clear now! I strongly recommend this product especially if you live in a house with hard water.
It has been two years since I bought my Opal. I have been drinking distilled water for the past 18 months after I switched from tap water (for the first 18 months of usage). My first task was to clean it after a little while. Over the past five months I have used vinegar to clean it most of the time. My cleaning has increased from perhaps once every month to as often as every other week. To clean my house, I bought a $30 cleaning solution. I used one bottle of solution and it lasted for about 20 days before it stopped creating ice. I will use the second bottle of solution this evening, but I'm not.
The only hope I had for keeping my Opal running smoothly was to use this product. Throughout the process, I followed all directions carefully. I have an Opal, instead of a machine that works well, that is covered in white film everywhere the water goes, has trouble making ice, and flashes yellow every time it needs to be cleaned. It should be noted that these issues began 2 days after I began using the product. I have never experienced this before. My screen is still getting the white film even after running multiple clean cycles using only water. My ice machine is in bad shape because not only did this not help to clean the ice, but it caused damage to it as well.
