Questions & Answers

Is there one steel ring 1/2" x 18" used n 1/2”x18” steel round from homedepot work just as well?

Yes! Any 1/2" diameter steel rod you need, no matter what type, needs to be used. You shouldn't go shorter than 16 inches from ear long than 16"/18". Better grip is achieved by wrapping electrical tape on the ends.

Do these work on spring?

Statistically uncertain... However, if your springs have "brackets" that are about half inch long in diameter evenly spread about them, I would wager it will work just fine.

Can 1/2" steel rounds be made the same diameter diawork just as well? Now is the time when I can get this item. Thanks?

In long as the product is not of cold roll steel it should do the job.

It is a caution to use
5/5

The spingers work as a windbreaker, check out any videos and buy them wisely. As I shook at the sounds of the springs, I knocked on the garage door and powered it back on. The sound woke up everyone but me. My G door handles loads of material easily at 1000 pounds. This tube should have 27 rotations, since it's a 7 footer. By doing that, it did work. In addition, it is important to invest in force grips so they can be put on the bar. Whether or not I wore my motorcycle helmet was a private matter for me.

Safety is ensured with the addition of depth tape
5/5

This was supposed to be my first garage torsion spring repair and I decided to do it anyway. A few videos on YouTube showed me how easily I was able to adjust the springs after viewing safety lessons. Rubber grips are suitable instead of a no grips system in a quality product. When I put on depth tape, I always know exactly when the rod is situated. (see pic).

It worked great
5/5

These items will be needed for any Garage Door tension springs adjustments, replacement, or maintenance. When I began using a couple pieces of rebar, I very quickly realized it was too risky. These were what I ordered, and I like the product much more now. When adjusting the spring tension they were really solid. Steel bars are ideal when seated at maximum tension using springs, and metal handles do not interfere with tension. Safety is a bonus when moving the spring since slip is built in as well (the bar must remain fully inserted in before moving the spring is removed). No matter how little you spend, if something you do not intend to adjust one of these springs will cause serious injury and avoid them at all costs.

The work that I did was okay for me
5/5

It was just fine for them to hold both springs in place, although there will not be a regular need for them ever again. I was leveling uneven doors using both of them when I found these. Then used them to adjust the tension in order to keep the door from rising more than 4 feet if an emergency release occurred. As I watched that one twist more quickly than one in another, I calculated the force it took, that one was more wound. Be sure not to allow that one to turn until 1/4 or 1/2 turn left. The door will now open even and sit balance now more than ever. There is a specific door that I intend to adjust with them for more assistance, and this door requires adjustments to springs. My step ladder, which has a hole nearly one-quarter inch wide in the shelf, can accommodate two rod trays in a single step. The grips came in really handy. Rather than fall through the hole, it was held in place by the grip. Unless it came off the stepladder shelf, it would not have been difficult to put it down with no support. I would agree with another reviewer that it would be nice if the holes were fitnier. Neither of the springs does wobble over the hole; in fact, they also allow them to come loose since both are in such good condition, with just one spring lifted and one rod held between the rod and the bottom hole, all it has to do is bolt. Furthermore, if the bottom rod is put against the door in order to hold the spring, it must be sufficient pressure within that pressure. What better way to prevent the spread of slop than letting go too early in the race??.

What I do not like about that article is how it is described
3/5

The information I was given does not match either the picture nor description I was provided. I used cheaper paint instead of a rubber grip for this rubber grip, I couldn't find any in town and the flaking was rather obvious. A discomfort is the opposite end of the spectrum. The item I purchased is also shorter by about 18" and does not meet the strength standards necessary for safely winding torsion springs in steel.

EDIT: After receiving an incorrect item, Amazon took care of it right away and sent me a replacement item at a nearby Amazon store. Despite the fact that you see it and read it HERE, it is the same thing as what other people seem to be receiving lately, that is NOT what's on the page. With a 1-star rating still remaining and I'd like a refund or a replacement, I'll be making a request.

It doesn't take a lot of time at all to complete the job
5/5

importance of safety - borne Out of the Above Keep your eyes on the prize. Does it fit well so that you might remove so that it will stay in place if you let it go? No. Again, let that said, if you get in trouble for letting something linger in front of you for thirty minutes, you probably won't have an enjoyable day anyway. Make sure your head remains out of your line of sight while rotating and that there is downward pressure applied to the rod to make sure it stays seated in the opening. DIY is still a viable option when the project is done, but some people worry they will get whacked by one of those rods if they start there. I strongly recommend viewing the following how-to videos on YT prior to starting.

They are not something I wish I'd returned
5/5

From Home Depot, I bought a set of springs that came with rod sets. It was my desire to save money on the rods I already had so I returned at least two. As I understand it, you need a lot of leverage in order to secure your springs and you will not be able to leverage properly.

My purchase was great
5/5

When you wind the springs for your garage door, they must be properly lubricated. Spring hub winding holes, they fit well between the wood feet and the hub winding holes. They made solid leverage through well-balanced twists. It gives you a good look at whether your winding rod is shifting out of the hub while you're using it, something you'll want to keep in place so you can ensure it is working correctly. Even though I'm 113 pounds and have a double door in my backyard. I highly recommend this product.
