Yes, I do! It's fine to use steel rods of any diameter larger than 1/2 inch. 16"/18" is a good size to stay within. To give the tape a better grip, wrap it around the ends.
I don't know. I would bet it will work if the ends of the springs have round "brackets" with three holes about 1/2 inch in diameter evenly spaced around the brackets.
You should be able to work with cold roll steel as long as it is cold rolled

To prove I was a careful person, I stepped through and adjusted my own torsion springs in the garage. I watched some YouTube videos for safety lessons and was able to comfortably adjust the springs after watching them. As opposed to a product with no handles, this product is of high quality, with rubber grips that are comfortable to use. My rod depth is indicated by a tape, so I know when it is fully inserted. Here is an example of (see picture).
Obviously, I watched a youtube video on how to wind the spools. Make sure you watch any videos and invest in had to tell you that I was shaking like a California quake because they were a threat, but I got it fixed and my garage door opened The G door of my van is capable of holding over 1000 pounds. what I could see on Youtube, the flyer was 7 feet long, so 27 rotations were required. I was able to fix it with that. Be sure to get force grips and place them on the bar to add an extra layer of My motorcycle helmet was on while doing this, and I'm not ashamed of it.
Neither the picture nor the description match what I received. The plastic grip on mine had a piece of painted paint that covered just about one inch of one end, so There is an uncomfortable texture on the other end of the spectrum. Moreover, the length of the products I received is also shorter than 18 inches, and I don't consider the steel to be sturdy enough to wind a torsion spring securely. *EDIT
My complaint to Amazon about the incorrect item was promptly resolved and a replacement item was sent. it is the same thing people like me and other people are receiving as of late which is not what is advertised or shown Sadly, 1 star is still missing and I will request a refund and find a different company.
The spring clips worked just fine, and I was able to use them to level an uneven door while I held both springs in place. I am not sure how often I will need these, but they were just what I needed. They were then used to adjust the tension since the door would rise about 4 feet from open if the emergency release were When I felt the force it took to twist, I knew there was a small difference between one and the other, so let that one off by With the door now even and balanced, the door looks much better. In the near future, I will be using these tools to help adjust a door whose springs need adjusting to provide In this case, however, I did not realize how convenient the grips were, since I have a step ladder with about a 1/2 inch hole in the shelf, which I could drop one rod into while using It was kept from falling through the hole by the grip. It wouldn't have been easy to put down without it rolling off the stepladder shelf if I had tried to do that.
I do agree with another reviewer that it would be nice if the screws fit tighter into the holes. As long as you hold the other rod while sticking out of the bottom hole, they don't wobble in the hole, but they are loose enough that if you lift the spring with one without holding the other as well, it will easily fall out. If you're letting the bottom rod come up against the door to hold the spring, you have to put enough pressure on it to make sure it holds. There's no point in getting sloppy and letting go too soon.
If you need to adjust, replace, or work on the garage door tension spring, you will need these. A couple pieces of rebar were in use when I quickly realized how dangerous this was. How different these are from the ones I ordered. There was less difficulty in adjusting the spring tension and they were much more solid. Unlike the handles on the previous versions, the bars are solid when you adjust the springs to maximum tension Additional safety is provided by the depth gauge included in the design (so you can utilize the spring only after you know the bar is fully inserted). For a very small cost and risk, you can result in severe injury if you use something not intended to adjust one of these springs. Just buy them so you aren't in danger!.
Do you feel it is a snug fit such that when you let go, it will not move? There is no. Nonetheless, if you let go of these in the middle of your torquing, you probably aren't going to have a Make sure to maintain a firm grip and downward pressure to ensure the rod stays seated in the opening as you rotate. Keep your head out of the line of sight of the rods should you lose your grip for any reason. Some people are afraid of getting hit by one of these rods, but if you keep your focus on the task, you should be fine. I highly recommend watching some YouTube videos so you know what to expect. Remember to apply the number of turns recommended for your spring and weight of the garage door.
To wind my torsion springs again after they became unwound when my cables got tangled around my spool, which caused my springs to unwind once they were freed. I ordered these to fix the problem. My spring spring cables had to be replaced, so I ordered these Winding Rods. Having arrived promptly, they appeared to be of good quality and, most importantly, they felt solid and sturdy. I was worried that the rubber handles would be cheap and plasticky, but after receiving it I found that they were well made and had a plush, comfortable grip. These rubber handles are non-slip and feature a plush, comfortable grip. Red tape was provided to assist in placing them at the proper depth. I love these rods. They made my garage door work in no time. I can't say enough positive things about them. In case you have to replace or work on your torsion springs, please use the correct tools and equipment. You don't want to run the risk of injury by using makeshift rods. Get these and do it right and safely.
There are a set of springs and rods that came with my spring set from home depot. These rods were 2/3 the price of these and I thought I could save money by returning the ones I already purchased. I'm glad I didn't wind it, as the force it takes is a lot and you need all the leverage you can muster.
