A thin layer of charcoal covers the entirety of the filter, including the metal frame. The filter measures about 10 1/2 inches long by 8 3/4 inches wide. As part of the filter, I did not disassemble it, so this information is not With my tape measure, however, I would estimate the charcoal layer includes the back metal mesh and the front metal mesh to be only a bit less than an eighth inch thick. Despite its thinness, it is strong.

It is true that the other reviews are correct, you can see right through this filter and it is all fabric on the front side that is near the fan (local stores have metal on the top and bottom to prevent it from sucking in air). This is just carbon soaked foam, and I can see through it. I can't imagine how it will filter odors. It has a carbon layer which looks thicker and works to eliminate odors although there are layers of it in the home wares store. My experience is that the better types can be found locally, and they just cost a few bucks more.

Good packaging and quick delivery made this a winning purchase. Snapping the filter into place was a snap, and it fit perfectly. The price was a bit steep for a filter, but not enough to turn me off. As intended, it does its job. A second purchase would be made for this item.
It should be noted that this filter is not for non-profit organizations In spite of its advertisement, this product does not come with ducted hoods. In the genuine 41F filters, the back has a thick pad to catch the oil until it is captured, so it cannot drip and leak onto your backsplash like There should be images of the back of this item posted by the seller.
It's dimensions are listed there as well. I was satisfied with the results. This one is nice and cheap in comparison to the other. I have washed it several times Getting rid of it was the right decision.
