As advertised, this part fits the Aprilaire model 550. We replace this filter once a year because it appears to become clogged as a result of the water and air passing through it.

Every few years, I buy these AprilAire filters. I bought a box last year, used half of it, and saved the other half for this season. I attempted to use the second filter yesterday, but it is too small to fit my Aprilaire humidifier, which has a capacity of 500 gallons. I'm glad I bought a box a few months ago to have on hand in case I needed to use one from the new box. Last year, the color on top of the filter was yellow; this year, it is black, just in case that matters.

I've noticed that adding humidity inside the house not only makes the furnace work more efficiently, but it also helps me avoid getting extra dry skin during the winter. I would strongly suggest it.
