The most serious flaw with this shower head is that it lacks any "teeth" near the edge that would allow it to be easily removed. This shower screen is simple to install, but it is extremely difficult to remove for cleaning. My stock rocket shower screen has a groove near the edge to make it easier to remove with a spoon or flat head screwdriver.
The IMS Shower Screen for my Rocket Giotto espresso machine has a much more even dispersion than the stock shower screen. I used a new Cafelat silicone gasket to install it. It's fantastic!.
I was ecstatic to receive my new IMS shower screen, which will replace my generic e61 screen. I retrieved my old shower screen, crusted with the week's coffee residue, relieved that this time there would be no soaking. But a week later, I was shocked and appalled to discover that the IMS screen lacks a ridge. There appears to be a ridge in the photo, but there is none for leverage when removing the screen and gasket from the machine for daily/weekly maintenance. Now I have to order DENTIST TOOLS just to remove my shower screen for a regular cleaning. Despite spending three times as much as a generic screen that provides the same flavor and effectiveness, if not better, due to regular dispersion screw scrubbing and screen soaking, I doubt I will use this screen for very long. I'm also concerned that removing the gasket will cause damage to it. I'm irritated because a screen that hasn't been washed properly produces bitter espresso. Unless you enjoy playing dentist and painstakingly picking out machine gaskets, you should probably pass and order a good ol' $6 screen with a ridge instead.
This screen was designed to provide even dispersion, but water flows through in large, separate channels that are unevenly distributed. Izzo Alex Duetto has a much more even flow through the stock screen. I double-checked my installation and cannot recommend this screen for the Alex Duetto based on my personal experience. Although there are no visible flaws on the screen, the performance falls short of expectations.
Update 6/12/21br>br>I've downgraded my rating to one star (from four) because it's no longer useful for the reason I stated in my original review: Because the bottom ridge is so shallow, removing it is extremely difficult. So now I have a high-quality shower screen that I don't use because I don't want to go through the hassle of removing it and risk damaging my grouphead with tools when I need to clean it. It's a real drag.
- The screen works well, according to the original review. br>br> The outer slightly protruding ridge around the bottom edge, on the other hand, should protrude/stick out a bit more. The ridge is significant because it provides leverage for removing the screen. Because it only protrudes a small amount in the current design, it can be difficult to avoid the flattening effect. It prevents the edge tool from slipping past it. The ridge on the original screen is higher. This isn't a big deal if you're using a silicone gasket because they slide out easily, but if you're using a rubber gasket and it's stuck in, it can be difficult to get a good grip on the screen. Fix this, and the design will be perfect.
I installed this shower screen on my Profitech Pro 500 PID and think it's one of the best upgrades you can make to your E61 group machine. I wasn't sure if it would help, but it did. It evened out the water dispersion, which helped my naked portafilter shots come out more evenly and caused the stream to come together faster. br>br>It also cleans up a lot easier than the stock screen; if any coffee from the puck gets on the screen, there's a lot less of it, and it comes off very easily.
Unless your methods have changed, you'll need that ridge as leverage to pop the gasket and screen out with a flathead or other tool. br>I welcome the seller(s) to correct me if I am incorrect. Buyer beware: if you receive a screen without a ridge, return it and notify the seller in the comments section. br>Thank goodness I bought it here instead of from an espresso shop with a return policy that isn't nearly as good. br>In the end, I purchased an EspressoParts "HQ" screen, which splits the water beautifully for a fraction of the cost.
br>There was also an improvement in taste. br>br>I have an Expobar Brewtus II double boiler machine. br>Installation was straightforward. Remove the old shower screen, replace the gasket, insert the new shower screen, and pull a shot.
