Selected User Reviews For Espresso Tamper - 58.5 mm for IMS Competition Filter Baskets, Walnut and INOX Steel. Flat Bottom.
I bought a 58mm Motta tamper, which, while it has a nicer stainless steel finish, doesn't quite cover the entire bed of a filter basket. It appears to do the job adequately, but because I'm using a lever machine, the water tends to be strongest around the basket's perimeter, where the weakest tamping force would be applied with a standard Motta tamper. br>br>This accuracy is 58. The 5mm tamper completely covers the espresso bed, ensuring that it is tamped evenly throughout. In fact, if you pull the tamper out of the basket too quickly, it can suck the puck out of the basket, so be careful. I think a 58 would have been a better score for me. 4 millimeters or 58 millimeters I was looking for a 3mm tamper but couldn't find one for this price. br>br>Aside from that, the wood is of excellent quality, and the tamper itself is of exceptional quality. If I had to choose between my Motta and this tamper, I'd go with the tamper, but I'd be a little more cautious when pulling it out of the basket.
This tamper deserves 5 stars because it is a good value for the money. You are unquestionably getting a good product for your money.
Pros: 58 fit and tamped It easily made 5 baskets, had no lines, and never once pulled the puck out due to vacuum.
Cons: For what it's worth, I prefer my tampers to be a lot more bottom heavy than what I'm used to. I had the impression that the puck was uneven due to a lack of heft. (I mostly tamp with my fingers)br>That is the only disadvantage and why I returned. It's very subjective, so don't take it too seriously. Everyone has their own personal style, and some prefer light tampering while others prefer heavy. br>In addition, I believe this was created by Devecchi Oem.
It appears to be identical to the photo. It was exactly as pictured and expected when I placed my order. I used calipers to measure the diameter, which came out to be 58. 5mm to the millimeter. Without being too tight, it fits perfectly in my 18g IMS Baristapro basket. It takes a little more skill than just using a leveler or a self-leveler for this one. I'm not used to using a leveling tamper, but I'm getting used to it.
Excellent price/quality ratio. However, if puck preparation isn't perfect, donut channeling will occur. I couldn't avoid donut channeling without using a puck rake/WDT tool like decent suggested. Because of the extreme closeness of the fit, a true precision tamper should have a vacuum effect. However, there is still some wiggle room on both VST and IMS baskets. On the IMS basket as a whole, this is much more noticeable. After a light tamp in a VST basket, the included photo was taken. Overall, compared to a standard 58mm basket, this tamper is a huge improvement. And I don't think it's fair to compare it to the Pullman because it's so inexpensive and ships so quickly. However, if you don't mind the imbalance, the tamper from barista hustle might be worth the small price increase.
This is a lovely tamper at a reasonable price. br>br>I needed a tamper to match my Legit Bianca wood accents but didn't want to give up functionality. This one accomplishes the task at hand. It's just as heavy and well-made as the genuine competition tamper, but with a lovely "angry owl" imprint and a comfortable wood handle. It's taken my toolkit to the next level, and it's now my go-to tamper.
Everything about it, including the design, quality, and weight, is perfect for the IMS basket.
I used to use a 58mm lens from another brand, which was fine, but this one is far superior. There is no ridge around the edge after pressing. It also has a lovely wooden handle and metal base that are meticulously crafted and free of flaws.
No more coffee running along the basket's wall because it fits perfectly in a VST basket on my Gaggia Classic Pro. With this tamper, the extractions are much cleaner and consistent.
