The air conditioning is very effective, and living in Florida necessitates its use. I bought a complete Goodman split system for my workshop last year, and it's been running smoothly ever since. The warranty from Goodman is excellent. I am extremely happy.
br>In the summers in Arizona, air conditioners get a workout. br>This unit was an updated version of the one that originally came with the house. br>br>Upgrading to this current unit has resulted in a monthly electric bill savings of $150.
The only thing I didn't like about these units was the small valve take offs on the condensing unit, which made brazing lines difficult and left insufficient space to connect your line set.
It has exceeded my expectations and is unafraid of the heat! It comes highly recommended!.
Six years later, the following is an update: br>As I mentioned in my previous review, this unit is inefficient and uses a lot of electricity. Even with the warranty, this unit was costly to repair. It required warranty service for three of the first four years of operation, and the compressor blew out in year five. Although the compressor was covered by the manufacturer's warranty, labor and refrigerant were $900. When you factor in the $400 in labor costs for the other three warranty repairs, this is a pricey unit. On a side note, I complained to Goodman support about the high electric usage, and they basically ignored me. The electric bill was reduced by at least a third after the compressor was replaced. As a result, when the unit was shipped new from the factory, it most likely had a faulty compressor. That would explain why my electric bill with the Goodman seer 15 unit was higher than with the old Trane 10. For the next five years, the total cost will be $3000 for the system, $600 for installation, and $1300 for non-warranty labor. Up to this point, the total cost of ownership has been $4900. First impressions: br>br> br>When my 15-year-old Trane heat pump broke down two years ago, the company that serviced it said they could replace the entire Trane unit for $3000 with a Seer 15 Goodman. What you pay for is exactly what you get. Every winter, I've had to call for a service call and have the defroster unit replaced. My electric bill went up 30% the month after I replaced the Trane with Goodman. According to my bill history, I use 2000 to 3000 kw per month in the winter with this Seer 15 Goodman system in a 1200 sq ft house. In the winter, I used 1200 to 1800 kw with the Trane Seer 10 unit. Following the installation of the new heat pump, the attic insulation was doubled. Although the unit works well, I would not recommend it. I'm not sure how these units get a Seer 14 or 15 rating when they're inefficient compared to Seer 10 units. Customers with Goodman units frequently complain that their electric bills increased after the system was installed, according to the company that last serviced it.
It is not a good idea to use near the coast. You will be without heat when you need it the most. br>For the past eight winters, I've had to have it inspected and repaired in preparation for the following winter. There's no way to know if it will work or not. br>I am a widowed 77-year-old woman. On the Oregon coast, there is no winter heat.
