To put them to the test, I stepped off the path into knee-deep snow. They are effective. There will be no soakers. My keens stayed dry on the inside, and the best part was that I was able to wear them the entire hike without them sliding down. I didn't even try to pull on them once.
These gaiters, in my opinion, are extremely well constructed. The gaiter is fully velcroed all the way around. The shoelace hook is in a good spot. However, I couldn't get the gaiters to wrap around my snow boots when we got our first big snow a few weeks ago. As a result, I had to leave a gap in the middle of the velcro to accommodate the snow boots' furry top. They fit fine when I wear them with running or hiking shoes, but not when I'm out in the mountains in the snow. As a result, they earn three stars from me.
On a winter hike in New Hampshire, I tried these gaiters out and they were fantastic. I ordered a small because I was concerned that they would be too tight on hiking boots and in the snow, but the pants fit perfectly (I wear a 4-). I'm wearing a size 6 in my pants and an 8 in my hiking boots). They may, however, be too small for climbing boots, particularly if they are double boots. If that's the case, I'd suggest going up a size. It isn't going to harm you in any way.
These are extremely comfortable and keep burs, annoying seeds, and ticks out of my shoes and socks! The material is excellent; it is thick and does not attract additional burs or spikes. The stitching is of excellent quality, and in the months that I've had them, I've had no problems with them! I got the blue ones, which are very flashy; I should have chosen another color, but they're great and do the job! Remember that wearing gaiters adds another layer to your shins, causing them to heat up faster!.
These gaiters are great value for the money, and I used them while climbing Mt. Mountaineering boots and a hood over a base layer, a mid layer, and a waterproof layer. These were a little tight around my calves and ankles, but they were still quite comfortable. Velcro runs the length of the gaiter to keep them in place. The only minor flaw was that it couldn't wrap all the way around the mountaineering boots' necks, leaving a small gap in the middle that couldn't be closed, but it didn't affect the gaiter's ability to stay on. The gaiters kept the snow out nicely, and the bootstraps were securely fastened and held up well throughout the day's climb. If used frequently, these would probably wear out quickly, but for occasional use, the price is hard to beat.
The quality is excellent. The rubbery band that fits under the sole is easy to clean, and the gaiters can be snugly wrapped around the shoe or boot. A shoelace can easily be secured with a clasp. One of the clasps needed to be spread out a little more, which was simple to accomplish. The top of the calf is aligned with a small adjustment. The velcro is wide, so it'll keep you a little warmer than you need in hot weather, but it'll keep you even warmer in heavy rain, snow, or mud.
Velcro came undone from the gaiter almost instantly. My husband used them for a Tough Mudder course, which he had no problems with with other gaiters. These didn't even make it through the first two miles (they were flat, grassy, and muddy; before the velcro fastener separated from the rest of the gaiter (there was no rocky terrain). He took it out of his pocket and stuffed it into his pocket, but it got lost somewhere along the way. There was insufficient "terrain" for these gaiters to experience such a catastrophic failure. This is a brand that I would not recommend.
These are fantastic and perform admirably. They're soft and comfortable, and they'll blend in with your pants. As a delivery driver, I have to travel through a lot of snow and was getting tired of having snow in my boots all day. These, on the other hand, do the job, and the only thing I was concerned about was the strap on the bottom of the shoe, which gets walked on all day, and I wasn't sure how it would hold up over time; however, it is very strong and durable, and it is still going strong.
