They come in a set of two.
Just 100% Nylon is the reason for this. The care tag and the cardboard bag hanger that came with it made no mention of Gortex.
I wear a size 10 shoe and ordered a large, which fits me perfectly.
Yes, it helps to keep water out of your pants and boots.

The calf measurement should be used to size this item. The manufacturer's sizing information is available here, though I believe it is largely useless. I ordered the Large gaiters because I wear a size 10 shoe. They were a tad on the small side. When I'm wearing jeans, my calves measure 19" around. A better method of sizing this item would be to measure the circumference of the calf.
I'm looking forward to seeing how they hold up in the long run. Yesterday, I used them to chainsaw wood and they were fantastic! I was wearing shorts (which I usually do regardless of the weather or job) and when I removed them, there was no sawdust! br>My wife has used them several times in the snow, and the thank you kisses indicate that they are effective! br>To determine size, measure your calf size with whatever clothing you plan to wear underneath; this guide came with my compression socks and was accurate for my mediums; I'm not sure if sizing is industry standard, but I do know that shoe size has little to nothing to do with gaiter size!br>Four thumbs up!.
These are exactly what I needed for snowshoeing, and they work perfectly. I was wary of the attached/non-attached distinction. Underfoot straps are replaceable, but they appear to be quite sturdy. The only way to find out is to wait. I imagine that using them for hiking on rocks or rough terrain would wear the strap out much faster than snowshoeing would. I was also concerned that the strap buckles would rub against the snowshoe straps, but they are unobtrusive, and the design of these gaiters makes them easy to put on and take off, and they seal nicely around the footwear. The upper straps/buckles are secure and unobtrusive, allowing you to forget you're wearing them. That's how it ought to be. This was a great buy. In terms of scale - I bought a medium pair for my wife and a large pair for myself based on the manufacturer's size chart, which is solely based on shoe size; however, due to my wife's 16" calves, the mediums fit me (size 11 shoe) and the larges fit her (size 9 shoe). A person with 16" calves will not be able to wear the mediums. They should size them according to their calf size rather than their shoe size.
These gators were purchased for sagebrush hunting in Utah's thick, scratchy sagebrush. To keep bugs and ticks out, I used to tuck my pants into my boots and double knot my boot laces to keep them from unraveling in the brush. All of that is taken care of by these gators, which is exactly what I required. Their performance was fantastic, and I was very happy with it. br>br>These are still looking brand new after about a week of very rough hiking. The stitching where the straps attach at the bottom of the gators has fuzzed slightly - as a result of all the abrasion It appears to be primarily aesthetic in nature. br>br>As branches and sticks brushed against them, they added a little noise to my walking. The scratching noise was slightly louder on cordura fabric than on regular pants and leather boots. There aren't any serious issues. br>br>They were a lot more breathable than I had anticipated. I wore them on a hunting trip in 80-degree weather and didn't even realize I was wearing them. They were very comfortable because I didn't have any sweat buildup under them. br>br>I would buy these again and recommend them to a friend without hesitation.
Outdoor Research Men's Rocky Mountain High Gaiters are one of three pairs that I own. br>The most recent one, which was purchased only a year ago (and may have been used a few dozen times), has a broken top buckle, rendering it useless. As seen in the illustration. They were fantastic in every other way. br> It would be great if they tested and used better materials.
These are what I use to build and maintain trails in dense underbrush. They've survived briers, wet underbrush, and snow, and while they don't look brand new, they're still in good shape and don't appear to be functionally impaired. When I'm benching trails, they keep me dry and dust out of my boots. They've met my expectations. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> br>I ordered a second pair of these gaiters after almost a year and a half because of two reasons. First, they were available at a fantastic price that I didn't expect to see again, and second, my previous pair was a little too big for me. Three to five days a week, for three to five hours each day, I continue to use the first pair. They've stood up to a lot of abuse and are still as functional as they were when they were first installed. Permethrin is sprayed on them. I can't say for sure that the gaiters and insecticide have kept me safe, but the only time I've found ticks on myself this summer was when I wasn't wearing them.
From Colorado winter snow to Alaskan backcountry brush, these gaiters have proven to be a reliable companion. These gaiters have proven to be extremely maneuverable while providing maximum protection against stinging thistle, relentless snow, and swampy conditions in all scenarios. Even after a ten-second submersion in shin-deep fast-flowing glacial waters, these gaiters kept my socks and boots dry. It was well worth the money. I've only worn these gaiters with 8" waterproof leather hiking boots, so I'm not sure how well they'd work with other styles or sizes.
I haven't had the opportunity to put it on yet, but the fit appears to be tight for an XL. I'm a chubby 5'10" woman with long legs, with an 18" circumference at the widest point of my (upper) calves in a pair of jeans. The XL appears to have a maximum circumference of 18" ("maximum circumference" means you can completely close the long velcro strip up the shaft and over your shins - see pic). To keep out the snow, I assume gaiters must be snug/slim fitting. Even though I am only trying them on for the first time today, the connectors and velcro appear to be doing a good job of keeping the snow out. However, it appears to be a simple task to complete. They need to update the sizing chart to include leg length and calves circumference, as they recommend size L when I wear a size 10 shoe. The length is perfect (just above/below the knee, with a 33" inseam). Please note that I have never purchased or worn gaiters before, but I will try to remember to update my review once I have had the opportunity to do so.
