I really like how solidly this storage rack is built and how easy it is to put together. The process of mounting it on my basement wall took less than 20 minutes. This rack is awesome, however one problem I noticed right away prevented me from giving it 5 stars I am not sure if you stored modern rockered skis on this rack, it wouldn't damage or warp The flared tips have been designed to hold the skis in place It might be fine for older skis, but I noticed my rockered skis got pushed while falling through the narrow space with hanging weight pushing the tip of the ski If it is stored this way for the offseason, I am concerned that the rockers will warp and the shape will change. I don't plan to find out whether it's true or not. By putting a box underneath, I was able to work around this possible issue, the skis now standing on the box and leaning into the slats instead of hanging with all the weight pressing on.
I think this is a great idea, but it is highly dependent on the shape of the ski. Ideally, the skis need to be flat (less camber), then rocker up just at the 2 to 4 inches before the slope ends. In the event that you have multiple length skis (from a family member) and large camber and large rocker tips, this rack does not hold them all. The four different lengths of skis that my family has need to be propped up underneath with boxes to accommodate this restriction.
Hopefully, it will be a fairly straightforward According to the instructions, you should mount with the arrows pointed up, so I follow the instructions to the letter. I mount the first arrow up to a stud, install the rod, level, then install the second It's a big deal. In order to be mounted, the mounts have to be mounted in one direction due to their angled design. Due to the angle cut in the second mount, it could not be installed arrow up as shown in the pictures, so I had to install it arrow down instead. The picture and instructions do not look like the one I got. I don't know if I got two lefts or two rights. This is not a huge problem, but it means that the rack slants downward. Since it is installed where I can't reverse the mounts, I cannot fix it. It was easier to minimize the angle for me to install the hangers upside down. Last but not least, one of the hangers had a slight bend, so I had to force it into position with a vise and a Not a huge deal, but the second change to a process that should have taken no more than 30 seconds. It's not a bad product, just some mistakes in the manufacturing or packaging have caused me to be.
The construction is solid and good. This container holds a great deal. As I mentioned earlier, I object to the fact that the prongs in which the skis are held are the same powder coated metal as the rest of the frame. My only wish is for them to be made from something softer. The skis are scratched and scraped where they come into contact with them.
In light of the quality of the rack, it is very difficult to make any real comments. It is very sturdy and holds two pairs of skis in each hanger - such a great rack! The total number of pairs is 10. The problem I have with the rack is that I could easily fit more than five hangers on it, so I would be interested in buying another one or two hangers if they were separate.
When I mounted the bracket at one end all the way, I was able to hit the wall stud in the corner, which was very good because that was the way I wanted to install it. To date, I have two pair of snow shoes, three sets of alpine skis, one pair of cross-country skis, and a bunch of poles hanging around. As others have mentioned, I thought I would add some protective tubing, but the rod ends are very smooth and I do not think I need it. Clients who are happy with their purchase.
This is a functional, solid, and easy to install product. Since I was installing a Michigan basement (aka a foundational construction with a ledge), I had to attach boards to my 1st floor joists so that I could bolt the HVAC unit to them. In order to get them seated properly in the main bracket, I had to tap some of the pins (that hold the hangers in place) several times with a hammer. It took me a little while to arrange the rack so I can fit 12 pairs of cross-country skis and 8 poles on it.
However, it only works with the Alpine skis, and not even close to working. In order to put them in the rack, the skis must first be lashed together. In addition, the cross country skis are not provided with enough shovel to prevent them from slipping through the metal rods that are supposed to hold them in place. The third problem is that the alpine skis I have are quite heavy, and the flex induces excessive flexing of the shovel when they are hung. It is likely that hanging shovels in this rack over the off-season will cause them to bend or deform. In the end, it is essentially useless to me, but others may find skis that are more efficient. They did not respond back to me after I reached out to them.
