Mostly, I bought this set so I could secure my skis' snow brakes while they were packed in luggage, and those rubber bands work perfectly for that. Although the velcro straps could be useful for securing the skis to each other while carrying them or whatever, the felt portion of them is so short that, by the time you have tightened the straps down, there is no felt surface left to absorb the force. Should have kept the felt running the whole length of the strap, that would have been.
We recommend that you always have an extra band and strap on hand for packing your skis in the hard-sided.
Unlike the previous canvas straps that shipped with our Sportubes, this one is much more convenient. It is a strong, easy-to-use tool. An upgrade that is well worth it.

Works very well, the straps are just a bonus. I'm a snowboarder, and those wouldn't be useful to me.
