The mount as a whole is extremely durable. It's a little heavy, but I like the wood because it goes with the rest of my boat's wood. I gave up on the mount being removable and drilled holes in the gunnel instead. The block is now permanently fastened to the chassis.

My motor shaft didn't reach the water because it was too short. As a result, I slid the mounting block to the bottom. In that position, it appears to work perfectly. However, in order for my motor to fit, I had to remove some wood.
The position of the star nuts in relation to the bottom cross bar should be clearly shown in the instructions.
