This was purchased as an extra layer of security for my 1x9 conversion (from 3x9). This is a low-cost option that accomplishes the task at hand. Extra bolts/washers were included in the package, as well as a shimmy (for clamping on narrower seattubes). It weighs 52 grams when mounted on my 34 without any of the extra pieces. The seat tube is 9mm thick. Installation/adjustment was simple, there was no fuss, and there were no complaints.
I put it on my wife's ebike a few months ago. With the guard in place, she has ridden for several hundred miles. She hasn't lost her chain once, despite the fact that she used to lose it every week. Wife is content, husband is content. I had to slightly modify it to fit on the ebike's larger downtube; otherwise, it would have fit without the rubber pad.
The only real criticism I have is that when you tighten it onto the seat stay, it rotates. As a result, aligning the chain is a little more difficult. However, once set up and locked down, it performs admirably.
It was a cinch to use. When my daughter used first gear on her bike, her chain would jump the sprocket. I tried every adjustment I could think of, but nothing worked until I discovered this chain guide on Amazon. Since I installed it, I haven't had any problems with the chain. It was simple to set up.
Since I put this on, I haven't had a single chain drop! It can be adjusted to fit most bike frames.
The metal fastening pieces are two different metric sizes, and one SAE Allen wrench is also required. br>Because the metal fasteners must be the same size, only one Allen wrench is required, rather than three.
When I converted to a 1x8, I had a lot of chain jump. There were no issues after this was installed.
For me, this was a total success. I installed an electric motor in place of the stock one, which prevented it from working. I was able to make all of the necessary adjustments with this.
