Things I like: (1) the receiver tightening "expanding wedge" feature really secures the rack to the car's hitch receiver and virtually eliminates wobble and rattling (2) it's extremely easy to load and unload bikes, (3) the receiver hitch lock, and (4) the integrated bike locks Things I don't like: It doesn't work well with the tailgate of a Jeep Wrangler, but I knew that going in. If the bike rack becomes a problem, Kuat sells a pivot that swings the entire thing out of the way.
Each of my wife and I has a 50-year marriage. pound e- We needed a big rack like this because we had a lot of bikes. Beautifully engineered and extremely sturdy. I'm not afraid of getting into an accident when I'm driving - This was mounted on a pathetic Honda Fit. It's a little surprising that a single swinging/locking arm can hold a bike so securely, but it can. It's simple to set up, and the instructions are very clear. Because the thing is 75 pounds, it requires two people or someone much stronger than me to attach and remove it. Kuat should make more products, in my opinion. They're similar to Apple's or OXO's of bike racks.
This bike rack makes it so easy to travel with bikes. It has a lot of locks, which we really like. One secures the rack to the hitch, while the bike rack has its own cable locks for securing your bike to the rack. I believe the cables are adequate in length. It tilts just right to allow us to open the back of our car without having to remove the bikes. Unloading and loading are both a breeze. This is a very sturdy and heavy-duty item! It's a little difficult to set up at first, but once you do, it's a breeze. This is a much better option than the Thule. It's not cheap, but it's well worth the money.
I was dissatisfied that the package only included one tire extender strap for my e-bike. There was no 24" or smaller tire adaptor included with the bike tires. The small tire adaptors were mentioned in the back of the manual, and they are on their way, but the extender straps are on backorder. All of this was included in my previous Kuat. If you promote the bike as an e-bike, you'll get a lot of responses. It appears that you would send both extender straps for bikes with larger tires. I still like the rack, but I didn't care for the lack of quality control over the items that would be included.
It appears that I received an open box item, as it already has two scratches and one retainer belt that is broken. It's so frustrating to spend a lot of money on a used item that's being sold as new.
It's very sturdy, and I'm not concerned about my bike at all when I'm on the road. There isn't much movement. Although this bike rack is costly, it is well worth the investment. Due to the ambiguous instructions, I had some difficulty putting it together. It took some time for me, and I believe I should have had some assistance. An instructional video for Kuat is required. It's a bit heavy at first, but once you get it on your car, it's fantastic. I have an E bike, which is quite heavy and necessitates the use of a bike rack capable of supporting the weight. It works well and is simple to operate. I'm very pleased with my purchase and plan to use it for many years. I would strongly suggest it.
This bike rack makes things so much easier, and the bikes (which we paid a lot of money for) are much safer. There will be no sway! When not in use, I like how you can lift the carrier and store it against your vehicle. I also like how it has a built-in locking system. We were able to purchase the add-on, which allows us to transport four bikes. I should also mention that we have friends who have a bike rack that is similar to ours, but the arm that extends and goes over the front tire area of the bike does not have the same coating, and their bikes are all scratched in that area. That is not the case with ours. There will be no disappointments.
It's sturdy and well-engineered. Everything on the bike rack has been carefully considered. We use it to transport our two Evelo delta xs, which each weigh around 60 pounds when the battery is removed. It does a fantastic job of handling them. There is virtually no wobble, and mounting and dismounting bikes is a breeze. My bikes have fenders, which the rack accommodates without difficulty. I simply clamp as close to the fender as possible without overtightening the clamps. They perform admirably. We can dash into a restaurant and grab a bite to eat while worrying less because of the integrated cable lock. It's not a chain, but if you park in a safe location where the vehicle is secure, I wouldn't be concerned. This rack is even recommended by Evelo for their ebikes.
