Questions & Answers
One person can lower and raise the Kuat rack, but be careful because it's easy to fall down on the pavement when there are two or more bikes.
If you have a serial number, please contact Kuat. You'll be able to tell. The tilt function release lever can be used to tell, but ours is an NV, and I haven't seen a 2. I'm not sure what the difference is between 0 and 1. That is NOT the difference in our NV because it is the 2" model.
Do a Google search to find out more. They were available at REI as recently as six months ago, but Covid has resulted in significant stock outs.
When I contacted Kuat, they informed me that they were no longer producing them. Private sellers are the only ones who sell. As an example, craigslist or ebay.

It doubles your carrying capacity while remaining light enough to be removed from your vehicle. The NV 2 is something I've had for a long time. I've been riding for over a year and have recently added a third bike to the back seat after much effort to remove wheels, get gear in, and so on. I'm single, but I enjoy riding more than one type of bike on an outing and also have my son who visits on occasion. That being said, I've wanted to put this ad on for some time but was unsure if it would be worth the investment. br>br>Well, believe me when I say it is! It arrived in excellent condition and was put together in a short amount of time; I had already ridden the day I put it together, so I was eager to try it out the next day. The first bike to be loaded is an older downhill bike that exceeds the weight limit of 50 pounds per bike. Then came a fat tire bike and a road-converted mountain bike; I knew I'd made the right choice, but the ad on the spot required me to choose which bikes (plural) to bring! I understand that if you are riding solo, you may not want to carry more than one bike, so if you only need to transport three or four bikes for you and your crew, this is the way to go. br> As others have stated, it adds some weight to the hitch when loading and unloading it, but I found it to be a minor amount. The cable locks for the back (the add-on) are keyed differently than the front (as stated), but they work fine and come with four keys. There's also one fat bike kit included, and if you call the manufacturer, they'll send you another for free, which is great because I have a lot of fat bikes. br>br> I was giddy the whole way to the trail and back. With ease, it navigates rough back roads and the interstate at high speeds. I'm glad I went ahead and bought it. Everything you'll need to put it together is included. john john john john john john john john john john john john john john john john john john.
After adding a roof top tent, I was able to transport four bicycles in the back. The extension works well for the same reason that the Kuat does. The hitch has a rigid compression fitment that prevents it from bouncing or rattling. My bike capture and tray support were excellent, and the integrated cable locks even had an upgraded lock mechanism. Even with this longer cantilever, everything works as it should. br>br>It's heavy, and the lever for raising and lowering the rack pivot is difficult to reach. You can reach through, or make a breaker bar, or whatever else you want.
It's all very good. My wife, on the other hand, wanted the Sherpa because she wanted to be able to transport friends' bikes. She drives a Jeep Wrangler, and I have to admit, it's a lot of fun to pile into her toy car and go on adventures like high school in it with the top and doors off. br>br>I was worried that because it's so heavy, she wouldn't be able to remove/install it or even operate it on her own. We just leave it on because it's simple enough for anyone to operate. You'll have to figure out how to stand to reach the latch if you have short arms and this extender installed. My wife is 5'0" and can raise and lower the rack, as well as get her own e-mail account. Place your bike on the rack. She simply rolls the front tire into place after lifting it. br>br>So far, the bike-holding hardware has proven to be simple to use and reliable. We drove from Kansas City to Des Moines, Iowa (about a two-hour drive). The bikes didn't move for 5 hours on a weekend. br>br>When it comes to equipment like this, there isn't much to say - There are no problems; everything functions as expected, and it fades into the background. br>br>Oh, and there's one niggle: They don't have a lock that both secures the HiLo and matches the rack/extension's key.
One of the best racks, without a doubt. Worked perfectly 5 stars: Integral locks, simple wheel clamps/brackets, cosmetics, Trail Doc is cool. Sturdy design, secures bike nicely, good spacing off the back for bumper folded up and tailgate clearance when folded down (bikes installed), integrated locks, simple wheel clamps/brackets, good spacing off the back for bumper folded up and tailgate clearance when folded down (bikes installed), integrated locks, simple wheel clamps/brackets, Trail Doc is cool. br>1 star deducted because: There is no scuff bar/protection for the hitch cam knob (it can easily drag on the street when backing down driveways); there is no scuff bar/protection for the hitch cam knob (it can easily drag on the street when backing down driveways The lever to unlock/tilt the rack is convenient, but it's difficult to reach when there are bikes on the rack, especially when there are multiple bikes on the rack. 4 bikes. Like Thule and 1 Up, you'll need a remote latch handle. Trail doc is fun to use, but it's a little flimsy.
This adds a lot of weight to the rack! However, it is extremely durable and well constructed. We are very happy with our purchase! Both the rack and the add-on are shown in this photo.
The 2" adapter has the same ball bearing mount feature as the 1" adapter. If you don't need to carry more than two bikes, the 1 1/2" mount is ideal. This rack is simple to use and safe. I have confidence in this system when it comes to users who aren't mechanically inclined. Those who are will appreciate the ease of use as well as the high quality of the design and construction.
It's the easiest bike rack I've ever seen! br>Easy to open trunk when tilted down. br>To get out of the way, it tilts up (without the bikes). br>Keeps bikes firmly anchored, which is ideal for carbon frames. br>Bike locks that are integrated are fantastic. br>The bike repair stand is a little excessive, but I've used it before and it's great. br>It's a well-made piece. This is, without a doubt, the best bike rack I've ever used.
Spending the money on something that has a lifetime warranty and can handle any bike I buy in the future, regardless of frame design. The only snag is that there are only four bicycles available.
