Questions & Answers

What makes this plate different from the carrier plate? On my e-mail, there is a mik rack. Thank you for your bicycle. ?

This plate is used to modify a bag so that it can be used on your mik rack. The carrier plate is used to turn a regular rack into a microphone rack.

Will Basil Sport Design be able to use this? bag in the trunk - a 15-liter bottle 17746 in black?

Instead, I'd look for a Basil bag that already has the adapter plate attached. MIK will be on the label of these Basil products. If you prefer, you can buy the adapter and use it to convert any rear bike bag to a MIK ready bag, but you'll need to drill four holes in the bottom of the bag to screw it onto the adapter plate. br>Also, keep in mind that the MIK system is made up of two parts: You'll also need a rear bike rack with the MIK'carrier plate' built in, or you'll have to purchase it separately and attach it to your rack.

How much does the item weigh?

I've never measured or weighed mine, but I doubt it's much more than 1/2-pound. It's about a pound and a half. I put mine in a Basil Trunk Bag, which accounts for the majority of the weight.

Is this adapter compatible with the Basil pannier for city dwellers?

I've got the Basil Magnolia double bag panniers, and they're great. I believe it would also work for the Urban Basil panniers because it is listed in the Basil 2020 catalog, and the MIK plate comes with hardware to attach to the MIK plate, so all you have to do is click it on and off the back rack. If I am able to, I will attach a photo.

Almost any bag can be converted into a MIK rack
5/5

This was purchased to convert an old Traverse trunk bag to a new MIK rack (the Bontrager BackRack, as mentioned in several other reviews). I didn't see any reason to upgrade to a $130-bag because it was still in good shape and fit my cycling needs. br>br>Mounting instructions are included for attachment to either a bag or a basket, but I found it fairly self-explanatory. br>br> Before even reading the instruction sheet, it was self-explanatory. Attaching the adapter to the MIK rack and putting my bag on top of it to eyeball placement was my method. After that, I took off the bag and used gold nail polish to paint the tops of the mounting holes (don't laugh). The nail polish transferred to the bag bottom as soon as I pressed the bag back onto the plate, clearly indicating where I needed to make holes in my bag. I'm not sure if this method would be useful to anyone else, but it worked well for me. br>br>The MIK key that comes with the adapter plate has a slot in it that can be threaded with a key ring; It does not include a ring, so keep that in mind if that's something you're concerned about. To make it more visible among my cycling gear, I simply threaded it onto a novelty keyring I had lying around. Instead, I'm thinking about using a lanyard or carabiner. I should mention that my MIK key is grey rather than the black shown in the product image, but I don't mind. (As shown in the picture, the adapter plate is black. ) )br>br>Lock-in- ability: The MIK system is "lockable" in the sense that the bracket slides into and latches around the hardware of a MIK rack or MIK carrier plate, effectively joining the two. Anyone who has ever had a trunk bag that was attached with Velcro scraps and had the bag slide off to one side or the other will appreciate this system. This does not imply that the item is "lockable" in the sense of a security lock. That is not the case. A pocket knife blade can be slid into the MIK latch to release it; It's simply easier and safer to use the MIK "key. " (And, given that most trunk bags are made of various fabrics, if someone really wanted the contents of your trunk bag and couldn't get it off the rack, they'd probably just slash the bag open. ) ) If you're upset that it's not a security lock, I'm not sure what to say because that's not its purpose.

This adapter doesn't have any security
3/5

This adapter does not lock. The security of the mik system is non-existent. The concept of a 'key' is at best deceptive, at worst outright deception; as a simple spring-loaded click adapter, it works fine, but there is no security. Beware.

Most quick-release panniers are not compatible
3/5

I ordered this to go with a collapsible grocery basket and my RockBros panniers for grocery runs on my bike, but the design is so wide that clip-on panniers will not fit. The panniers are unable to attach due to the plastic. Only panniers with a fabric strap that runs across the top of your rack are compatible with this system, according to the instructions. Furthermore, the key feature is ineffective because you can easily remove this plate by pressing the button in by hand, as shown in my photo. I really wanted to use this system, but there are a few details that prevent me from doing so. I had to return it because it did not perform as described in the description.

MIK adapter plate is a type of adapter plate that is used to connect two This fits perfectly on my bike, which came equipped with a MIK rack
4/5

I was able to pick the bag I wanted and easily mount it to it (I added a thin luan board to keep the bag's bottom firm). It was less expensive to buy the bag and adapter plate separately than it was to buy a cheaper bag that already had the MIK adapter installed. One thing I don't like is that I couldn't get the key to fit on my bike key ring, and it ended up in my pocket. Unfortunately, all that is required to remove the bag from the rack is a large tip screwdriver, so there is no need for a replacement key. If we're going to be out for more than a few minutes, I usually take the bag off and carry it into stores and such, so it's not a big deal - Plus, even if the bag was locked, someone could open it and remove the contents, so the lock essentially serves its purpose of keeping the bag securely latched to the rack while riding.

I made a $100 profit
5/5

I still desired a luggage rack when I traded in my old bike for a new one. My old Trek interchange rack, which was only compatible with the MIK system, would not fit on the new bike. Instead of spending $130 on a new MIK bag, I converted my old interchange bag, which I really like (by the way, the spring and clip can be removed with only one screw). The rest of the equipment is safe to keep. Drilling through fabric to mount the four screws was a bit of a pain. But it gives me a sense of security.

It appears to be functional and durable. It's a different story when it comes to putting the basket in place. You'd think they'd use metal for something like this. I had a hard time screwing the basket to this mount because it's plastic. To fit my basket, I had to make a few changes.

Simple to work with
5/5

The MIK system is one of my favorites. On my back rack, I have three different bags/baskets. My rack is equipped with a MIK carrier plate. This MIK adapter is used on a few different rear bags so that I can easily swap them out. Plus, if you're shopping in a store, this system makes it a little more difficult for someone to steal your basket.

It really works
5/5

I bought it with a TOPEAK trunk bag and used the included hardware to drill some holes and bolt it to the adapter. My topeak trunk has now been snapped into place. off & It connects to my rack without any additional hardware.
