They're extremely strong and durable, even if you don't need to use the mounting bracket. Mine does not require the bracket because it bolts directly to the trailer. extremely powerful and simple to use
It won't spin because it's bolted in the middle of the buckle through your trailer's single mounting hole. I didn't use the mounting bracket because I didn't need it. The bracket is not necessary in 99% of installations. You won't need a bracket kit, so don't buy one.
I believe it is dependent on where and why longer bolts will be used. Because the lock nuts that came with the kit were too badly crushed to use, I had to purchase replacement bolts and lock nuts. Threads on bolts were ruined. I had no issues with the replacements that I purchased.
I believe it is 3/8"

and you won't be able to fully comprehend the shape/angles due to insufficient directions. I went to etrailer and watched their bracket video, which also falls short. Why does one of the "wings" appear to be smaller than the other? What factors went into determining the angles of the wings? What makes one nut darker than the others? Where should the mounting washer be placed? at the bolt head, between the buckle and the mounting surface, or up against the mounting surface in front of the nut? Again, there is no explanation as to why the washer is located where it is. To use as a mounting position, I have a trailer that is horizontally positioned. I tried several different attachment methods, including a small wing, center section, and large wing, and found that the method that produces the most "proper" strap angles places the Boatbuckle body in a position where it will turn upward under tension, regardless of how tight I secure the bolts. When I emailed them, they didn't respond.
Boat Buckles are a useful product, but their installation on the trailer is problematic. I used a welded-on tie-down point that came with the trailer to attach this universal mounting bracket. The weld from the trailer frame was snapped after a few months by the boat buckle. The design of these, as others have pointed out, is flawed. To keep the buckle from swiveling when tightened, it needs two or more points of contact with the trailer, as well as a more durable connection point on the trailer.
It came with all of the necessary hardware, was simple to put together, and performed exactly as expected. It's a pain to have to purchase these in the first place - This is already included in the price of the BoatBuckle. So 5 stars for this product, but 4 stars for the actual BoatBuckle, which should be included in the box.
I would have preferred to see this as a full cross bracket rather than a half bracket. I eventually came up with my own solution.
This was a requirement for installing the retractable tie downs for which they were designed. They aren't necessary for everyone, but they helped me get an A instead of a C on my installation.
This is a quick and easy way to install the BoatBuckles - However, it took some time to find a mounting position that would align the BoatBuckles properly without interfering with the license plate, etc. Once I tried nearly every configuration possible, they mounted quickly and made the entire installation a breeze. I didn't expect them to be as heavy metal as they are. br>br>They completed the task and that was the end of it. Other than not having to buy them in the first place (smile), I'm not sure what it would take to get 5 stars.
br>It's incredibly simple to use. Because of my trailer, I actually purchased the extra hardware to mount my buckles. br>So far, I've fallen in love with these items. br>It's only been a couple of months. We'll have to wait and see how these hold up over time.
I didn't expect to use it, but I did, and I'm glad I did- gave me more positioning options for loading the boat on the trailer with the boat buckles out of the way.
