Selected User Reviews For Park Tool AK-5 Advanced Bicycle Mechanic Tool Kit
After breaking a gear shift cable and rummaging through my toolbox for the right size hex wrench, I purchased this kit in Summer 2020. I was fed up with sorting out household tools for bike repairs and decided to invest in easily identifiable repair tools. This kit has met the majority of my needs, and while I haven used all of the tools to make it a resounding great value (27% discount off buying individual parts, not% PROS: br>br>
- The majority of parts can be identified by Park Tool's blue finish or their labelbr>- Most commonly used parts for most common bikes are included in this kit. br>- The tools appear to be sturdy and have withstood repeated, albeit light, use. br>- Park Tool has a lot of repair videos on YouTube, and the book that comes with it has a lot of technical information. br>br>CONS:
- Consumables in small quantities (e. g. chain cleaner, lubricant, grease, and anti-corrosion agent a seize compound) would go a long way toward rounding out this kitbr>- Key tools, such as the PP-100, are not included in the kit. 2 Hydraulic Piston Presses, as well as the DAG- 2 Derailleur Hanger Alignment Gauge for Bicycles (or a smaller alternative)br>- The toolbox could be made larger (longer) to accommodate more tools, such as the DAG-100. 2br>br>Since purchasing the kit, I've experienced chain slippage on both my regular bike and a brand new bike with a visibly misaligned rear derailleur. I made the decision to purchase a DAG- 2 tool and was able to fix the problem on the new bike in minutes, which the local bike shop couldn't fix properly after two visits. On my old bike, I also used the gauge to adjust the derailleur hanger, but then discovered the chain was worn (using the CC-1). 4 tool). Slippage was reduced to three gears after replacing the chain, and I was able to replace the rear cassette using the tools provided in the kit. The ball-and-chain system has been fine-tuned through a variety of adjustments. hex wrenches (HXS-) with a tipped end 2) made it easier to reach difficult-to-reach places. Overall, I'm pleased with the kit. br>br> Users with bikes that do not have Shimano/SRAM/Diore components should watch the Park Tool videos to see if they need to purchase additional tools, particularly the chain tool and cassette lockring tool. If your bike occasionally falls onto its right side, you should also consider purchasing the derailleur hanger alignment gauge, as well as the hydraulic piston press for disc brake pad replacement.
It isn't a fully functional bike toolkit. The Allen wrenches are flimsy and could break at any moment, which makes them very expensive. The picks are magnified, which is quite irritating. They stay with the rest of the tools in the box. Break bleed tools are not included. I'm not sure if the higher price is justified.
With over 100 kids, we coach one of the country's largest mountain biking teams. I work as a mechanic for the team. Over the years, I've honed my personal toolkit to include only the tools that I actually use and enjoy. When I was looking for a toolset for the team, I looked at a lot of much more expensive sets before settling on this one because it included all of my favorite tools. Park clearly talked to some real mechanics about what tools they use the most when putting this set together, and I'm very pleased with it. I wish I had started my personal set here. Buying them all together would have saved a lot of money.
For a novice bike mechanic like myself, this appears to be an excellent tool kit. It would have been nice if it had included a torque wrench. I didn't find the Blue Book to be as useful as I had hoped. I find that watching videos on the internet is more beneficial.
The tools and construction are appealing to me. Parks are generally more expensive than they should be, in my opinion. They are, however, excellent instruments. Bike repair manuals are extremely useful. I'm excited to use these tools on my bike and others for many years to come.
Every tool in the kit will be put to good use. For a first-time mechanic like me, this is an excellent purchase. At some point, all of the tools will be used. Since then, I've placed another order with Park Tool.
The best deal.
