It's a good idea, but you need flat/square cross bars so that these racks are firmly attached. Without this, the cross bars will not be stable and the racks will shift from place to place. As well, I tied down Kayaks on racks with straps laced to racks with rackets.

This is a great product, but it will not fit round bars! Just to be clear I repeat myself. Fits round bars but not round bars! I'm going to repeat it for those who are back there. ROUND BARS DO NOT FIT! Even if you can get the Yakima JayLow racks for $100 more, the amount of finagling you'll have to do to SAFELY attach it to round bars is insufficient to justify not paying the extra $100 for them.
