Product Description

Everything you'll need to secure a canoe to the roof of a car for transport is included in this kit.
Includes four foam blocks that snap onto the boat's gunwale to protect the car top from scratches.
To secure the bow and stern to the car's bumpers, 20 feet of polypropylene rope and S-hooks were used.
One (1) poly web strap with an adjustable buckle and vinyl-coated clips.
Straps can be used to keep the canoe attached to the roof.

Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use these foam pads to support a row boat, also known as a John boat?

Possibly. The foam has wide grooves that would most likely fit over the edges of a small row boat.

Will this work on a 2001 Toyota Camery with a sun/moon roof (with a low shield)?

My Accord has a retractable sun/moonroof, so it will be fine. It'll be fine if you position them so that they straddle (for lack of a better term) the glass. My canoe is 90 pounds! (Pelican 3-seater) No problems; I came in to order a new set because mine had begun to split after ten years. The ropes that come with it should not be used. The tie should have ratchet straps. They do not ratchet down, but that is fine. either in the back or in the front I simply use two $4 ratchet straps over the top and the other types of straps that come with it on the front and back ends. Exceptionally safe. The sunroof is in excellent condition.

Would this work on top of a soft-top Jeep 4 door?

I do, in fact, own a Jeep with a soft top. Basically, these are just foam pads. It's not so much about the pads as it is about the soft top that supports the canoe. Personally, I wouldn't paddle directly over a soft top with my canoe. I believe the soft top can't handle the additional weight. Even if the pads were attached to the center bar and windshield, they would not be strong enough to keep the vehicle stable enough to drive, which would be dangerous. Instead, I would invest in a roof rack.

What do you use to secure the straps in the back and front of the vehicle?

Tow hooks, tow rings, framework, or whatever else your vehicle has available that is secure are all options.

It's a good place to start if you want to expand
3/5

This is a great basic starter kit, but we had to replace two pads and add a few winch straps after only a few weeks. We discovered that using a pool noodle cut into smaller pieces and split down the middle (pictured with and without pool noodle) is a great way to complement this kit.

Without additional tie-downs, this is not a safe situation
4/5

This was purchased to attach my canoe to the roof rack of my truck. The foam cushions were more appealing to me than the rest of the furniture. The cushions are non-allergenic. br>br> To fit and hold onto the gunnels, slip (almost sticky) and sufficiently firm with cut outs. They protect my canoe from abrasion while it is being stored on the rack. br>br>I did find a use for the included cords, which are of good quality and easy to tie and untie without slipping apart. br>br>The included hold down strap is useless, and the instructions appear to suggest that it should be looped around the canoe and inside the car roof (windows down) with the cords tied to the bumpers - I can't say it's completely risk-free, but it's certainly doable at very low speeds. There's also no way to cinch any of the hold-down components tightly enough. br>br>I added more ratchet straps that loop around the canoe and secure it to the roof rack. I can drive at any speed because I have front and back rope tie downs that I can tighten.

It Isn't Thick Enough It was useful for transporting my canoe, but it comes to an end there
3/5

The blocks are far too thin to be effective. The foam beneath the canoe is too thin. br>br> The gunwale is too close to the roof as a result of this configuration. When I moved the canoe into position, it scratched my car because there was a slight curve that the blocks didn't cover. br>br>The foam will also roll under the canoe, and because the blocks are as small as possible, there isn't much room for shifting. br>br>Because the foam block is tapered, the pressure directly beneath the canoe will be increased. The force can't be distributed evenly across the bottom because the foam can't distribute the force evenly. The blocks, like those in most other kits, should be rectangular. When I ordered the blocks, I didn't realize how small they were. It was quick to arrive, which was ideal because I needed it right away. Now I'm going to invest in a more comprehensive set. My canoe, which weighs 57 pounds, struggled. I pity anyone trying to protect a 90-pound canoe's roof from dents and scratches with these blocks. This kit is less expensive for a reason!.

The quality is excellent in every other way
4/5

My only complaint is that the foam blocks have a low profile, and the slight curvature of my roof top end up touching the canoe in the middle section between the blocks. The canoe is kept from rubbing against the roof by a towel placed there. It should be no problem with a flatter roof. The quality is excellent in every other way.

Don't waste your money on this one
3/5

I've had a couple of these kits in my possession. I needed another recently, so I bought this. If the security of your canoe and the finish on your car are important to you, this is a big mistake. To begin with, the foam blocks are far too small to aid in the protection of the car's finish. Second, instead of two poly web straps as described in the description, there is only one (as shown in the photo). The poly web strap is made of flimsy metal and offers no comfort; additionally, there are no vinyl-coated buckles. clips with a coating Third, I'm not sure I'd call 20 feet of rope "rope. " "It's no consolation that when you arrive at your destination, the canoe will be on top of the car.

This is a waste of money due to the cheap materials and single strap
3/5

I rarely give one star to a product. In many cases, a product is beneficial to some consumers but not to all. This is one of the few exceptions to the rule. There isn't a single scenario in which this makes sense to me. It's a very gentle foam. It's so thin that it won't protect even the tiniest cargo. The strap appears to be of reasonable quality, but since anything secured to a rooftop requires two straps, providing only one strap is borderline irresponsible.

Light- An 18' aluminum Grummon does not require a duty kit
3/5

Because the blocks were too small and compressed too far, the canoe collided with the car's roof. The "cords" that came with it were far too thin. Fortunately, we already had some heavy-duty tiedown straps on hand.

The majority of it is junk
3/5

The foam blocks for the canoe are the best part of this kit. They're fine; tying the S hooks yourself is a pain, and there are ratchet-down S hooks that are cheaper and easier to use, so I wouldn't bother with these. My kit only came with ONE winch strap, despite the fact that it clearly states that it includes two, which was a disappointment, especially since you shouldn't drive without two of them holding the canoe down! Except for the foam blocks, this is mostly useless.
