Questions & Answers

What is the maximum height of the rack for a Hobie Outfitter kayak that is 18 inches high?

It is true. My two tarpons are there and one of them I held on to for a while until I traded it. Quite simply I cannot resist saying that it does not discriminate against any specific brand of kayak.

Is it possible to hold two Hobie Pro Angler 12s in these?

It depends, these racks are very durable, so as long as they are well-anchored (to studs with the right bolts) they should hold up fine. It should be noted, however, that Malone indicates a weight limit of 200 lbs on these, which means you'd likely be over that limit unless you remove all the removable parts from the hull. Should you decide to ignore the manufacturer specs, then you might also want to consider padding the plastic cradles with foam or similar material. Because of the curved shape of the boat, using the recommended mounting span with a 12 foot poly kayak may result in it resting on the outside of the boat or on the chine. In the past, I've had a 12 foot Elie that had been stored and had minor dents (that I worked out) afterward. My rack is very well padded now that I got some foam carriers. * Given the weight of two Anglers, you might want to consider a floor rack to have the weight supported, or separate sling and pulley systems to support the weight.

It has a trolling motor, so can it be positioned flat rather than on its side? Mine seems to be on its side?

Although it depends on the width of your kayak, you should still be able to use it since there is plenty of strap room.

Would you please let me know how this rack is holding up outdoors if you had it installed there? What is the condition of the metal? the kayak need to be paddled more to cushion it?

Second question - I have mine indoors but I would like to know what the best solution is. The kayak I use is polyethylene and I don't feel the need to add any extra padding to it. Space can be saved for two kayaks by using this rack. I and my wife can lift a 12' kayak to the upper rack * 5' above floor, and I can load and raise a second 12' kayak to the top rack * 3' above floor. It was no problem for me to get up 5' off the floor. To add an extra layer of padding, you can easily add pipe insulation, which is easy to do. Since it might trap moisture and tear, I wasn't sure whether to buy it.

The Dagger Axis 10 would fit perfectly in this case
4/5

In the last two weeks I have installed this system and I wanted to write some As for the product, I am generally satisfied with it. The build seems to be of good quality, and the strap is good-quality too. It was easier for me to go with this system because I didn't want to mount four things to the wall, and it seemed to be a higher quality/less expensive option than four Despite the fact that installing the solar panel wasn't difficult, it probably took me longer than most. Since I tend to measure and remeasure several times, I believed that I took longer than most. Besides the padding being less than satisfactory, I only knocked off a star. Despite the fact that my kayak rests on parts of the pad, it is extremely small. Now that I have added more padding, I am In the event of a change, I will update the post.

The product is sturdy, but does not live up to the description
3/5

My decision to purchase this kayak rack over other wall mounted racks was based on two factors. Two modifications were made 1) straps to hang a second kayak underneath and 2) weight limit *While I am more than satisfied with the construction, the mounting was a breeze, and the racks are very sturdy, I deducted a couple stars because of It is not able to hold all of my kayaks (Ocean Kayak - 20') as the racks do not extend far enough from the wall Since the Prowler 13) leans against the wall while mounted with the top of the kayak facing the wall, I had to use the cam buckle straps to secure the kayak even during If that is not the case then a sit in kayak or other kayak not as tall might do just fine. And 2) the picture and description I did not receive the 30" gear straps that were specified in the box. Hopefully, Malone will send me these. I will contact them to arrange for their delivery. In addition, the cam buckle straps cannot be secured as shown in the picture (which is the best way to secure a kayak) since the rack is attached to the wall tight and the strap cannot be looped behind the upper portion of the loop.

It was the best storage hook for kayaks I could find! The kayak storage hooks I chose after a long search were the ones I really liked
5/5

The screws are easy to install, just remember to locate the studs behind the wallboard so you have the extra hold you desire. There are about 75 pounds of weight in each of my kayaks. I love how easy it is to unload and load kayaks on these hooks. It is evident that I bought two pairs of the red hooks since I simply love them When I load my kayaks into my truck, I secure them using the straps that came with them. The product was of very high quality with a very good price. This is a strong hook, do not bend it or let it give. My goal was to provide the kayaks with a good soft resting spot on the hooks using knee garden pads.

Having three sets of these has been a great investment for me
4/5

I enjoy them very much. I would give them 5 stars, but I think the price could be lowered. I purchased the exact same models several years ago for $18 less per set and I bought them at the same time. A price increase of about 40% is expected. Hence, the overall rating is 4 stars since it scored 5 stars for functionality and 3 stars for price. It might be possible to knock a few dollars off the price if the straps are omitted. The reason you need to secure your kayaks to something hanging on the wall is beyond me. I don't have to strap my kayaks to keep them stable since they aren't moving. I do not wish to display anything beneath them either. As far as the racks themselves are concerned, they are made very solidly. In my case, I am These kayak racks are very convenient for 5 foot kayaks. They lay flat and are easy to get on and off.

The Inuit 12 is perfectly matched to this product
5/5

It is large enough to hold my 12 1/2' Inuit, which measures 26" wide and weighs 55 pounds. With the Inuit, you don't have to strap it in and it fits great. The lag screws that come with the kit make installation easy. The first rack was mounted first and a 2x4 was placed in between them along with a level, and then the second rack was mounted. Those who are concerned about the height of the racks when mounted on the wall, like myself, can refer to the following information Those closest to the wall stick out 16 5/8" from the brick wall. They worked well in my garage even though it's tight. I wanted to know exactly how deep they were but they fit perfectly. My kayak sits a little higher than the side view mirror of my vehicle when I drive in, since there is not much room around my vehicle. In addition to the smaller straps, I used two other straps below the racks to hold my paddles. In terms of mounting distance, those straps are about 10 1/4" away from the wall, and hang about 15 1/2" below the rack's bottom. Using the included straps for holding a second kayak, I did not use the larger ones for extending the distance between the racks. So far, I have not had any issues with the racks not being padded, and my garage gets well over 90 degrees. I haven't had any deformation in the time I have had these, but I was thinking about adding some insulation just for safety's sake. The following update A couple of months later I still hadn't added padding to the racks and noticed two dents on the kayak where the brackets make contact with the racks. I will definitely add padding before I place the kayak back on the rack since it is mounted without straps and extremely hot in the garage. Perhaps, my situation is the result of how I mounted the kayak in the rack without straps and the extremely hot temperatures in the garage.

We have so far liked it a lot
5/5

I just installed it I was able to install it quickly. I think it's very sturdy and the kayaks seem to stay on it well. I have updated The rack is great for storing stuff. Once a day of kayaking down the river is over, there is no problem removing the kayaks and putting them back. Our dilemma about storage was solved perfectly with this unit.

My life has been made so much easier with this solution! I am pleased that the rack appears to be filling a need I had no idea existed
4/5

My racks have to be stacked outside, and I was having difficulty doing it in the configuration I was faced with- I was unsure what to do when I was ready to rack the boats. The upper rack would have had to be bolted securely to the deck supports in order to support them When they were hung off an outdoor deck, I would have had to place them along the railing. A small but! Below are the Malone J-cards Two boats are hung from one set of anchor points on the dock, and it works very well for this purpose. Though I'd rate it higher, I want to see how it will fare in the rain (I have a tarp over the entire thing to reduce exposure to the sun and rain). There are two boats right there, so it's very convenient. All I have to do now is figure out where my third goes.
