As a previous owner of a Yakima, I have a preference for the design. I found them to be a bit stiffer and easy to use compared to the previous model. They are the best option I could find because the big brands couldn't provide a good system for my Grand Cherokee, so I chose the aero shaped Rhino Rack cross bars to which they In addition to performing their functions, they also look good from the outside. The straps have to be wrapped around the bases a little more intricately. YAKIMA rack bases are rounder and larger than those from other manufacturers. It pretty much requires you to wrap the strap around the lower mounting points. So either you fold the strap over length-wise at those sections, or you wrap it flatly over the mounts, which I think is likely to lead to premature wear on the straps.
It is made of sturdy materials and seems like it will last for a long time. That alone consists of why it gets two instead of one star. My installation of one of the J-link devices was adversely affected by a serious design flaw They are designed in such a way that they are unable to be fixed. Simply put, you need to attach the two halves of the J-shape to the wall By screwing it into the plate, the hook will stay in place. A rubber pad is then attached to the top of the plate, which serves as a protection for the kayak and In spite of this, the top rubber pad is difficult to install and near impossible to remove without damaging it since it slots in in such a way that it is virtually impossible to remove without damaging it. In the end, I had problems because of this. After assembling the unit, the bracket and hand screws are used to attach it to the vehicle. The product would be easy to attach and remove if it had this feature. There is a problem because when you turn the hand screws, it can unscrew the bolt from the plate as well. The same thing happened to me when I was dealing with a J-style credit card This is how I installed those hooks. This is supposed to be prevented by friction in the threaded metal portion of the plate you screw through. Apparently, this part of the design did not work for me, and the metal threaded part of the design actually moved out of the opening. Since it doesn't make any difference which way it is turned, it's just as if turning either way made the bolt As a result, there can only be one loosening or tightening side for this specific J-hook Approximately twenty hooks. In addition, it is practically impossible to make any repair since I am unable to access the tops of the bolts because of the rubber top pad. Despite the poor design, it could be a great product with a better design.
After getting two new kayaks, and already having one Rhino rack, I got two Rhino J racks to go with them. The installation and use of the program is easy.
My kayaks are coming tomorrow so I will be able to review them informally.
Anyway, I ordered one thinking maybe it would be enough. Based on the previous review, I could tell that the engineering was inadequate. Despite my doubts, I placed the order anyway, thinking it would be an isolated case. In fact, that review was accurate. When you tighten the bottom nut, it loosens the top nut. Moreover, the rubber top piece gets destroyed when it is attempted to be removed. It is not a kayak carrier I would purchase again!.
I mounted it on a rhino rack perfectly. I can easily carry my kayaks without having to worry.
