For my 22 pound one, I just bought a regular puddle jumper. It works fine for a 5-year-old; it's a little big, but she can still float and move around in it. I have one with shoulder straps, which I believe will be beneficial.
Yes. This was purchased in preparation for our February trip to Florida. At the time, our daughter was four months old and weighed around thirteen pounds. She is a very tall baby (95%) and a skinny baby (40%). It was a huge success. It's a little big, but that's the case with all infant life vests. Because it isn't split in the middle like traditional vests, it doesn't ride up on her neck as much. On the boat, she slept in it several times while being held by us or her grandparents. It appears to be working for her for the rest of the summer. Next winter, we'll be in Florida.
This model does not have an adjustable neck.

Son who is 5 months old. We adore the fact that his older sister wears a puddle jumper. I was ecstatic when I discovered one that was appropriate for his age and weight. If I took my gaze away from him to watch his sister, I wanted to make sure I had some time. Unfortunately, this is not that product; I turned back to see him face down, struggling and unable to right himself after watching his sister slide into the pool. I tried it a few more times to make sure it wasn't a fluke (he's in swimming lessons, so I knew he'd be fine for a few seconds), and it was VERY repeatable. BUY THIS PRODUCT AT YOUR OWN RISK. It's time for a recall!.
This was worn by my 18-month-old while wading in the kiddie pool. She lost her footing and floated face down after putting her face in the water to blow bubbles. She was unable to re-establish contact with the ground with her feet. This device keeps children floating FACE DOWN with no way of rising. That day at the pool, it happened a second time. It was also seen by another mom. said she had the same issues with her son wearing the same exact one last summer.
To a large extent, yes. BUT BE WARNED AND WATCH YOUR CHILD! We discovered that if your child has enough strength to flip over, it will keep their head submerged in the water.
I was concerned that my 2-year-old son (who weighs almost 25 pounds) would object to wearing a life jacket. I was surprised, however, that he didn't even squirm or resist putting it on. He also avoided smacking his head multiple times thanks to the back head support flap. He would have fallen and hurt his head if it hadn't been for it. Would highly recommend for toddlers who are still too small for the next size of life jacket!.
My 23-pound one-year-old loved it! She moved around as if she wasn't wearing a life jacket, which was fantastic!.
Swimming on the stomach is not recommended for children. My daughter is very small, so the 30 pound puddle jumpers are a little too big for her, but they still work. I was interested in trying it because all of the reviews indicated that it would be a good fit for children under 30 pounds. IT IS PERFECTLY FITTING! She is almost three years old, but she is already twenty-four years old. 5lbs. br>However, when she tried to swim with me beside her, she kept flipping over and her head went under water. It's intended for a much younger child who will simply float and be held by mom. It would have been fine if my daughter had simply relaxed and floated on her back, allowing the life jacket to do its job, but she insisted on swimming! She'd lean forward, but the foam on her chest prevented her from leaning forward, so she'd roll to her side and her head would dip under before she could regain her balance. Before taking it off, we tried to let her swim two more times. It was the same every time.
I bought this for my almost 2-year-old son, and he loves it. He's a little under 24 pounds, so a typical toddler puddle jumper wouldn't fit him. It took him some time to adjust because the sensation around his neck is strange. It, however, is extremely effective. We spend most weekends at the beach, and he's become an expert. When he was knocked down by a wave, it flipped him right back on his back, keeping his head above water. (Even though we were right next to him, it's good to know it works!).
Until recently, our little guy disliked wearing it because it bunched near his jaw due to his short stature. He still likes it now that he's 29 inches tall, and he'll play with the bright fish on the front design. It was well worth the money to have peace of mind that he would be safe on our boat.
