The anchors I used were sufficient, but you could use screws to mount them to studs.
There is really no way to mount it vertically. They are kept in place by the weight of the poles. would probably be possible to hold them to the mount with a bungee cord. However, it does work well overhead.
Since it is between 4 and 6 inches tall, I hang it above a ceiling fan in my office and still have plenty of space.

An ideal solution that is both simple and elegant. In order to keep them out of the way, I hung them over the garage door. They are definitely worth checking out by anyone having similar plans or requirements. Please refer to the attached photos.
I think the price is way overpriced for an item of this quality. There are no instructions, so I do not understand why people are complaining. These aren't hard to hang, there aren't a lot of mistakes to make. The only way you could get 12 poles up with this would be to remove the reels or to be willing to fight putting them in and taking them As for size, each hook is about 5" apart, and the line counter reels are about 6" wide. The six rods fit nicely in the rack, but you have to stagger the reels in order for them to fit properly. They are still easy to get in and out of. This rack is incredibly simple, but it has a lifetime guarantee. I mounted my rack above my boat so when I come home I don't have to break the rods as I pull them out of the water. All I have to do is.
When I arrive at the garage, I look at it.
I didn't have to stagger anything on my rigs. I have some large rigs, but most are sized to the mid size range. All the parts fit together perfectly and it is nice and high above the ground, out of the way of family and friends who would be trampling through the shed all the time. Considering getting one of these racks. This case is constructed of very strong metal, but is rubberized on the outside to prevent damage to your precious components. This book is highly recommended.
In the first set, the hooks were all the same size over a year ago. This set has alternating large and small hooks, which is fine, but I didn't realize the design had changed. I am very happy with how the first set turned out. It encourages rods to be stored in alternating directions so they are less likely to get damaged. I mounted these to my garage ceiling backwards from one another so that a small hook lined up with a large hook on the other side. It is unlikely that I have any more room to install more of these, but if I did, I would order more. My rods never even get dusty since they are mounted where they don't get touched.
For fisherman who is aware of the seasons and has rods and reels targeted for different species, they are a must-have. I like to fish for trout and fly fish. Having 45+ rigs organized and out of the way for the first time in a long time is a real accomplishment for me.
The area where I store all my relatives' fishing poles and my own was a great place to organise and store them. This is a very simple design that works perfectly. I only have one complaint about this set there are no written instructions, and the hardware used to attach the hooks does not quite satisfy me. It's best if you find the shortest pole and base your spacing off of it. If you have several fishing poles, you'll need to pick the shortest. In place of using the included screws to mount the hooks due to the fact that they go into the drywall, NOT STUDS, I attached them to 2 X 4 X 16" boards and then attached those to studs to support the weight of multiple poles. Rather than simply screwing the provided hardware into your drywall, I would recommend installing the hardware on the inside. However, the system works beautifully once it has been put in place.
