It depends on the size. I would guess that where you have 80+ dry flies on one side and 30+ streamers on the other would be reasonable. As a way to organize my hand-tied flies, I have a small, medium, and large.

Since this was my first fly fishing trip, I got the smallest box. I just wanted to take a few flies for myself since I am still learning. As you can see from the photos, there are roughly 30 slots per side, but if you have anything much bigger, such as wolly bugs or other larger flies, you might only fit maybe five. You can fit 6 of them in without cramming. Flys with a smaller profile fit perfectly if you skip one or two spaces. It would have been better if I had gotten the larger There is a strong feeling to the case, and it seems waterproof (we have not tested it yet). There are no obvious signs of wear on the doors, and the latches seem strong enough for ten drops. I have so far found the quality to be excellent. my hands on it, so I don't know how well it will do on the water yet, but I'm pretty optimistic. In another bit of random advice, make sure to close the box when trimming feathers because it is naturally somewhat static charged. You have trouble getting all the trimmings out of it because it holds them so tightly. I would probably buy the larger ones again in the future. This will certainly earn a five-star rating if it holds up over the course of a few trips.

Big streamers are well suited to this size

In my experience, these boxes are too large to keep in vest pockets, but I used them to store my big streamers (think 2 hook articulating) and they work just fine for that purpose.

A large gift was purchased for my husband. There are 216 spots on the fly box for small flies (rows 9X12, two sides), but product information says it will accommodate over 300 flies (both foam and silicone).
