Selected User Reviews For Tacky Original Fly Fishing Fly Box
I had previously purchased the Orvis/Tacky collaboration box and expected this one to be similar. This box, on the other hand, is much thinner, making it unsuitable for carrying lake patterns (leeches, dragonflies, and damsels), as well as parachute dries. I also miss the old "cool-as-a-cool-a-cool-a-cool- the color "mint" These are, however, minor nitpicks. My assortment of size 12-inch dolls is kept in this box. There are 18 nymphs in total. In a fishing pack with limited space, the low profile will maximize storage. The silicon keeps the flies in place, and I don't expect them to move. This box is ideal for transporting a diverse selection of every-day items. Day nymphs are nymphs that live during the day.
This is a review of the larger, single-seater version. Tacky Original Fly Fishing Fly Box is a two-sided Tacky Fly Fishing Fly Box. First, let's look at the "pros": The silicone bed is of excellent quality, and the magnetic closures are effective - It's not too strong, not too weak, and it has a small loop to attach to your vest, belt, or pack to keep it from falling into the river. The "CONs" are now as follows: The larger box lid is not as sturdy as I had hoped; it flexes more than other similar-sized boxes I own, it requires a little more headroom inside to avoid smashed fly hackles, and it is not waterproof. This one will go in my collection of still water flies.
These are without a doubt the best fly boxes I've ever encountered. The hooks are easy to insert (once you figure out where they're supposed to go), the flies are held in place by the Tacky pad, and the case is held together by neodymium magnets. The fact that they don't float is the only flaw in them. Despite this, I purchased two more Fishpond Tacky boxes, one for a small kit and the other for larger streamers, despite the lack of buoyancy.
I was a bit let down. I placed an order for a double-decker bus. sided. The quality is good, but it's so small that it's almost useless unless you only want to carry tiny no-hackle flies. You must consider the double-edged sword. sided would be thicker so that flies on both sides could be accommodated without being squashed. Nope. It appears that they simply added another silicon layer on the other side; I'm going to try ripping one side of the silicon out to see if I can salvage it.
These are most likely my favorite fly boxes, but I prefer a smaller size. This one is a little too big for my vest and can be a pain to remove and reinstall, but the quality and utility are excellent. Durable rubber with a clear case so you can see your flies, semi-rigid construction Magnetic closure and waterproof.
Because of the magnets, I was unsure if it would stay shut. It's holding up well in my sling, backpack, and boat box, keeping everything closed and secure.
This box, like all of the Fishpond gear, is of the highest quality.
