I needed to upgrade my current release, so I purchased this. This release is extremely comfortable, with thick straps, a sturdy construction, and an ergonomic design. Until you get to the release's actual mechanics, that is. I wanted something with a curved trigger and the ability to adjust the amount of tension required to activate the release. And I figured it out. But, because of the way the bowstring is let off, I'm now shooting 2 inches off center to the left with this release, and whenever I need to use my hand to do things like pull arrows out of the butts, the release is either in the way, or you have to use a bit of force to bend it back to your wrist. It's a great idea, but it needs to be redesigned for that reason. 3 stars for comfort, adjustability, and trigger design; 1 star deducted for poor release ergonomics and how they affect the shot, in my opinion.
Then I discovered the adjustment for the distance between the wrist and the d-ring. "lol" will be repeated several times. br>At the end of the day, I was shooting a brand new Sas Feud set at 55 yards, 20 yards, and golf ball size groups in about 30 shots. br>The last bow I shot was about 43 years ago, and both the bow and the arrow were made of fine fiberglass. br>Needless to say, this is a high-quality piece of gear that makes it simple to position the hook into and out of the d-ring. loop.
The buckle and strap are excellent; they are both comfortable and long-lasting. The release hook is too deep. br>The trigger is smooth and not too hard. When I press the trigger, the hook's very end catches on my string loop. My bow string does not leave the release smoothly and straightly as a result of this. Right before it leaves the hook, I can feel my loop being caught by my release, resulting in unwanted nock travel. If you want a hook-style release, I recommend the Spot Hog or B3 brands.
The release mechanism is extremely poorly cast or stamped. The edges are razor-sharp and, in some places, pitted. As many others have discovered, the mechanism is sloppy, and the hook causes inaccuracy. You can improve the results by filing the inner hook or removing a pin, but at this price point, this item should not be so poorly made. br>br>You should choose between the lower-cost version, which is better-made, and the higher-cost version, which is overpriced and made to the same standards as the lower-cost version.
A "claw" variety was my previous release. To be honest, I preferred that style. My bow kept torquing after I switched to this one, so I had to resight it. The "fold back" design is useful in some situations, but it's a pain in the neck most of the time. It's never available when you need it, and god help you if you're wearing gloves! It's a good release, but I'd like to spend more time practicing it. If you're coming from a claw style, be prepared for a difficult transition.
My previous wrist releases had been a source of aggravation for me. They all worked fine, but they kept banging at inconvenient times while I was in the deer stand; the Tru Fire Hardcore's foldback option is a fantastic idea! I can get into my stand, glass, use my rangefinder, and text without worrying about my release hitting something at an inopportune moment. Furthermore, the release runs without a hitch and offers a wide range of customization options to fit my needs.
For years, I've been shooting thumb release/back tension release, and this one is fantastic. My groups are even more closely knit than I had anticipated. I like that the length and trigger can be customized. The automatic loading is the icing on the cake. It'll be a dogfight if I'm shooting a tournament and you have this release as well.
It works well; however, after I started using it, I had to adjust my draw length. Once everything has been fine-tuned, the release is smooth and comfortable to wear. Those who give this product a poor rating will most likely need to improve their post-shot follow-up.
