Having more screws than I needed was not an issue for me. Is there a flaw in your unit's construction? To put my unit together, I didn't need to drill any holes. Your question may have been misunderstood by me. Could you give us some additional information?
It ought to function correctly. An olympic bar measures 7 feet in length and extends well beyond each side.
Cardboard is used.
I haven't looked, but a replacement bench could be made out of a grade 6' long 2x16 board (or something similar if you aren't in the US). You'd have to fill in the gaps with your own padding. This is something I've seen in gyms where I've been a member. It's safe

When this bench arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that there were only about 6 pieces to assemble and that there were no multiple sizes of bolts, washers, or screws. This thing is super simple to put together for any handyman, and it will only take you 30 minutes. It takes 60 minutes to complete. I'm confident that even if you have no prior experience, you could put it together in under an hour. There was no wiggly once everything was tight. br>br> It isn't particularly heavy, but it does have a solid feel to it. The spotters' station is an example. It surprised me that it wasn't some cheap, thin tin metal base, but actual diamond plate. br>br>The bar holders/catch on the uprights are my only gripe. They ought to be longer, in my opinion. There is no extra space to add to your safety when the Olympic bar rests on them. I can see one side slipping off if you don't rack it all the way. It is, however, heavy-duty and should not bend or break.
This is an excellent piece of equipment at an excellent price. My only complaint is that the bench is too narrow for my shoulders, which causes them to slide off the edge.
Users who benchpress less than 175 pounds would probably be fine with this item. The rack wobbles when the bar is racked, even when bench pressing 135 pounds. The Olympic bar's hooks are also insufficiently large. I'm not sure how well the pad will hold up in long-term use because it appears to be made of thin materials. term use. br>br>I've been working out in gyms for years, and this unit pales in comparison to the bench presses I've used at Golds or 24 hour fitness. br>br>I would return the item, but the box was severely damaged during shipping, and the item itself, if it holds up, could be useful for light barbell workouts. br>br>However, for long-term use, I'll be on the lookout for a better bench press. term use.
The bar mount is a little low, and I could see myself going to rack the weight and overshooting the bar cradle because of it.
This was a true farewell, and I've been very pleased with this product thus far; I've seen the exact same product sold under different names for much more than I paid for it. It was simple to assemble, is very sturdy, and, to be honest, is probably close to Gym quality.
All you have to do is go to Home Depot and purchase a bar to install to the bar so that when you put the heavy lifting on it won't go over the bar.
This was extremely relaxing. After the support brackets, the height is a little on the low side.
For the money, this is a fantastic product. My issue is with the rack's height. I'm 6'3" and don't have particularly long arms, so I had to add a pipe to raise the rack's height so I wouldn't toss it over. It's perfect now that you've made that change.
