It worked for about two weeks before ripping on the highway. It wasn't loose, and it was fastened to the car tightly and securely. All of the instructions were followed to the letter. My two nice longboards flew into the road, endangering others and destroying $1000 worth of surfboards because the strap ripped in half. Photos from the horror scene can be found here. I'm hoping to get reimbursed for the surf rack, the destroyed surfboards, and the scratches on my car if you don't buy this product.
This winter, I used them to carry two sets of skis and a snowboard. At least one more snowboard or two more sets of skis could have been added. I wish it had a ratcheting system instead of just a clamp system to secure the straps, but I'd still recommend it as a simple and inexpensive way to transport items on your roof. This summer, I'll give them a shot with my kayaks.
This is a fantastic product, but it is not suitable for my vehicle. This is ideal for those who do not already have a crossbar on their vehicle. They were useless because I couldn't remove my crossbar to install them on my roof.
Only one, however, is delivered! Furthermore, there are no assembly instructions included when you open the package, adding to the overall poor product quality. At highway speeds, one rack is insufficient to secure my surfboards. Given that I will now have to purchase a second rack (in comparison to the competition, which includes two racks), this product is poor value for the money.
Because there were no instructions, it was difficult to use for the first time. I looked up videos of similar set ups on the internet, but after that it was a piece of cake. In less than 10 minutes, I can set up my kayak by myself (5'1 116 pound lady). The straps are extremely secure, and I've had no problems with them. The straps could be a foot longer, though. However, it works perfectly on my Honda Civic!.
The instructions were not very clear, but the game itself is fairly self-explanatory. Just make sure the thread is tucked under the little grip hook so it's easier to pull.
This isn't ideal. The straps are too short, the buckle for one of the boards is in the center of the roof, and it doesn't feel secure.
These aren't meant to be used as surfboards. Surfboards would not fit in these racks. I have two 8-foot foam boards, and when they were strapped on, they didn't feel stable or safe to drive with.
